Sand and gravel west and north of Syracuse
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the New Paris Plant, a sand and gravel operation 4.7 miles west of Syracuse, and the US 33 Pit, another sand and gravel site 7.6 miles to the north. Dump trucks and tri-axles that load at either pit are often parked at the operation itself, so tell us whether the truck sits inside a pit gate or at a yard in town.
If your dump truck splits its week between the New Paris pit and the one to the north, have the title, the current registration and a set of photos showing the bed, the hoist and the cab ready before you call. Give us the name of whoever controls the gate at the pit, and we arrange collection where the truck stands.
Milford, Warsaw and the bulk terminals to the south
Two petroleum product terminals appear in Energy Information Administration listings near town: one at Milford, 5.8 miles west, and one at Warsaw, 13.5 miles south. A tanker or fuel straight truck that loads at Milford can stay parked near the rack; send us the address and a phone number for the terminal contact.
Asphalt Materials, a liquid bulk terminal 13.6 miles south of Syracuse according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, sits close to the Warsaw fuel terminal. For a tractor that pulled liquid asphalt or fuel trailers between those two sites, gather the inspection reports and service records you kept, since they show where the truck worked.
If the truck is still at a Warsaw lot while you live elsewhere in Kosciusko County, leave it there. Tell us the yard, whether it is fenced, and who holds the keys.
Syracuse’s 71 carriers on FMCSA’s census
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 71 active carriers based in Syracuse: 18 authorised for interstate work, 53 intrastate, and 57 registered as private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet straight truck that delivers for a single plant is just as welcome as a for-hire tractor, so tell us which kind yours is.
General freight is listed by 22 of those carriers, machinery and large objects by 17, farm supplies by 9, and logs, poles, beams and lumber by 9, per the same FMCSA census. For a lowboy that moved machinery or a log truck that hauled timber, include photos of the trailer coupling and the deck with the cab shots.
Of the drivers on those registrations, 133 work within 100 miles and 108 travel beyond it, the FMCSA carrier census shows. Among the twenty carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median is 12,251 miles per truck; have your odometer reading ready with the VIN when you call.
From a lone truck to a thirty-six unit yard
On FMCSA’s carrier census the top three Syracuse operations field 36, 17 and 7 power units against 34, 7 and 8 drivers. If you are clearing several trucks from one Syracuse yard, list every VIN with the unit numbers, and we plan one collection rather than several.
Syracuse added five newly registered carriers in 2024 and a single one in 2025, according to FMCSA’s census. A carrier that started in those years and is now selling its first truck needs the title in the company’s name, matching the registration, before the sale closes.
What roadside checks recorded for Syracuse trucks
Forty-three Syracuse-based trucks went through roadside checks from September 2024 to August 2026 in FMCSA roadside inspection records, and their median model year was 2018. Just under half, 46.5 percent by those FMCSA records, carried a model year ten or more years back.
Model year and VIN open every conversation we have about a Syracuse truck, whatever year it was built. Keep the registration card beside you when you contact us so both numbers match what the state’s title agency has on file.
Syracuse plants, Kosciusko contractors and corn and hog farms
Manufacturing accounts for 1,676 of the 2,865 jobs located in Syracuse in 2023, or 58.5 percent, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while construction accounts for 87. Box trucks and tractors that shuttle parts between plants are part of what we purchase; note the plant where the truck usually parks.
Contractors around Syracuse number 35 construction establishments in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and a flatbed, dump truck or crew truck from one of them should come with photos of the body and any mounted equipment, plus the job site where it sits.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture puts Kosciusko County’s farm count at 1,079, led by corn, soybeans and hogs, so a grain truck or livestock hauler parked on a farm outside Syracuse can be collected from the farm lane; give us directions and a time someone is there.
Elkhart’s rail yard and paperwork
A tractor that pulls trailers to Elkhart’s rail yard, 21.9 miles north-west of Syracuse on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, may be parked up there between runs; tell us whether it sits in Elkhart or back home in Syracuse.
If the title is lost, request a replacement from the state’s title agency before the sale, and tell us when you have applied. A title held by a lender needs the lien release with it, so ask the lender for that letter early.
