Forty-three Wakarusa carriers haul only their own goods
Wakarusa has 66 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 43 of them run private fleets that move their own goods rather than hauling for hire. If your truck has carried freight for a farm, a shop or a plant you own, tell us so when you call, and have the title and current registration in your name ready to show.
The split between routes is close here: FMCSA lists 34 Wakarusa carriers as interstate and 32 as intrastate. A tractor that has crossed into Michigan or Ohio may carry IRP plates and apportioned registration, so keep the cab card with the title, and we will collect the truck wherever it is parked in town or at a customer’s yard.
Small outfits are the norm, though the census also counts one Wakarusa carrier with 1,727 power units and 1,201 drivers, another with 465 power units, and a third with 33. Whether yours is one tractor or a unit from a larger operation, a VIN, an odometer reading and a few clear photos are what we ask for first.
Lowboys, log trucks and hoppers registered in Wakarusa
General freight leads the cargo list, with 31 Wakarusa carriers declaring it to FMCSA, and 22 more list machinery and large objects. Lowboys, step decks and the tractors that pull them are all trucks we buy, so describe the trailer setup and the hitch when you send photos.
Sixteen local carriers haul grain, feed and hay, and the same number move logs, poles, beams and lumber, by the federal carrier census. A log truck with a loader or a grain hopper combination counts too; list the attached equipment so we know exactly what is coming off the property.
New registrations continue in town, with FMCSA recording four new carriers in 2024 and three in 2025. If your authority is recent and the truck is titled to the business, bring the business’s title paperwork and the name on the registration so both match when we collect.
Median 2020 build across Wakarusa trucks stopped by inspectors
Inspectors stopped 689 trucks from Wakarusa carriers between late August 2024 and late August 2026, and the FMCSA roadside inspection records for those stops show 2020 as the middle model year. Whatever year your tractor or straight truck is, the model year on the title is the figure we start from, so make sure it reads clearly in your photos.
Just over a fifth of them, 21.8 percent, were a decade or more past their model year when inspectors logged them, per those FMCSA inspection files. Older and newer units are both on our list; inspection reports and service records from your own files help us see the truck as you know it.
For 33 carriers here that report mileage, FMCSA’s census puts the median at 19,131 miles a year per truck. Have the current odometer reading written down before you call, since that figure, the VIN and the title are the three things we confirm first.
Construction and factory jobs near Wakarusa
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 2,290 jobs in Wakarusa, with construction at 581, or 25.4 percent, slightly ahead of manufacturing’s 542 at 23.7 percent. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks working those sites are the kind of equipment we purchase from owners here.
Wholesale trade adds 87 jobs and transportation and warehousing 78, according to the same LEHD figures. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 15 construction establishments, so if your truck belongs to a contractor, have the company name on the title match the business selling it.
Elkhart, Milford, New Paris
Nine to twenty-three miles out: yards, tanks and aggregate near Wakarusa
Nine and a half miles north, the Elkhart rail yard appears in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the Olivers yard lies 17 miles north-west. A day cab that shuttles freight to those yards can be picked up at your lot rather than driven anywhere for us.
Fuel moves through the Milford Indiana petroleum product terminal, 10.5 miles south-east, and the South Bend terminal 14.8 miles west, both listed by the Energy Information Administration. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics also lists Asphalt Materials, a liquid bulk terminal 23.1 miles south-east; if your tanker served these sites, tell us what it carried.
To the south-east, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the New Paris Plant sand and gravel operation 10.9 miles out, with the US 33 Pit 12 miles east. Tri-axle dumps and end dumps that run aggregate from those pits are welcome; give us the body length and axle count with your photos.
A duplicate from the Goshen branch on West Lincoln Avenue
If the title is missing, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles issues duplicates through its BMV branches, and the closest is the Goshen branch at 740 W Lincoln Ave, Goshen, 46526, about 9.5 miles from Wakarusa. Ask for the duplicate title application and bring identification and the VIN.
Once the duplicate arrives, keep it with the registration and any lien release so the record is complete. If a lender still holds the title, tell us the lender’s name and we will work through the release with you before collection.
Corn, milk and soybean hauling from Wakarusa farms
Wakarusa’s surrounding farmland belongs to Elkhart County, where USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,809 farms, with corn, milk and soybeans as the leading products. Milk tankers, grain trucks and feed haulers serving those farms are trucks we buy, parked in a barnyard or a machine shed.
Farm-plated trucks need the same title in the owner’s name as any other, so check the plate and registration before you call. Photos taken in daylight beside the barn or bin work fine for us.
