Private haulers dominate the West Terre Haute register
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 33 active carriers based in West Terre Haute, and that same census counts 28 of them as private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. A truck that served your own business, a farm or a contractor’s yard here is one we buy; start by sending the VIN, the registration and photos of the cab and frame.
Eighteen of the town’s carriers stay inside Indiana and 15 cross state lines, according to the same federal census. An intrastate tractor and an interstate sleeper are both trucks we buy. Tell us which kind of authority yours ran under, since that tells us which records to ask you for.
Fleet sizes on the FMCSA register are small: the biggest operator here lists 29 power units and 10 drivers, and the next two list four trucks each. If you are selling one truck from a two-truck outfit, or several from a larger yard, the steps are the same, and we collect from wherever the trucks are parked.
Corn, soybeans and goats around town
Around West Terre Haute, the farm sector counts 464 operations in Vigo County, with corn, soybeans and goats leading, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Nine local carriers list grain, feed and hay as cargo and seven list farm supplies in FMCSA’s carrier census. A grain truck or hopper tractor that sits in a barn lot between harvests can be collected from the farm itself; give us the field road or lane so we can plan the approach.
Machinery and large objects appear on the cargo lists of eight West Terre Haute carriers in the federal carrier census, alongside 11 general freight haulers. If your truck pulled a lowboy or drop deck for equipment moves, include photos of the trailer connection and the deck if it comes with the sale, and say whether the trailer is titled separately.
East of the river
Hulman and Baker yards, a few miles out
Two yards on the North American Rail Network, Hulman and Baker, sit east of West Terre Haute at 3.4 and 3.7 miles, as that network’s Federal Railroad Administration and Bureau of Transportation Statistics records place them. Trucks that drayed freight to or from those yards are often parked close by when an owner decides to sell. Let us know the street address of the lot and any gate hours so the collection goes smoothly.
Hulman Fld, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a military installation, lies 8.3 miles east. If your truck is kept at or near a secured site, tell us whether an escort or a pass is needed before we arrive, and have the driver’s contact ready.
Gravel south, brick to the south-east, Montezuma up north
Five miles south of West Terre Haute, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists a sand and gravel pit called the South Pit. Dump trucks and tri-axles that hauled from pits like that are welcome; photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab together give us the clearest picture before pickup.
The Boral Bricks Terre Haute In site, an industrial-mineral mine 11.8 miles south-east, and the Montezuma Plant, a sand and gravel operation 21.9 miles north, both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. If your truck is still parked at a plant or quarry yard, we can collect it there once the site’s owner clears access.
Short hauls, few bridges, one posted limit
Drivers working for West Terre Haute carriers report 51 operating within a 100-mile radius and 27 beyond it, in FMCSA’s carrier census. FMCSA’s census also gives a median of 9,126 miles a truck across the ten carriers here that report mileage.
Within the town, the National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration lists eight bridges, one carrying a posted load limit and none with clearance below fourteen feet. When you give us the pickup address, mention whether the route out passes that load-posted crossing so the right equipment is sent.
Manufacturing makes up a sixth of local jobs
Manufacturing holds 88 of the 494 jobs counted inside West Terre Haute for 2023, a 17.8 percent slice in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks and tractors that delivered to plant docks are trucks we purchase, whether they belong to the plant or to the carrier that served it.
West Terre Haute added three freshly registered carriers in 2025 after a single one in 2024, by FMCSA’s carrier census. A business that is newly registered or winding down can still sell a truck to us; what matters is that the name on the title matches the seller, or that you have the paperwork showing who can sign.
The Terre Haute BMV, just across on Professional Ln
A missing certificate is replaced by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, which handles duplicates through its BMV branches; the nearest is the Terre Haute branch at 2920 Professional Ln, Terre Haute, 47802, about 3.1 miles from West Terre Haute. Start the duplicate application there before you schedule a pickup.
Bring the registration, any lien release and photo ID to that branch. Once the replacement is in hand, send us a photo of the front and back so we can confirm the VIN and the owner’s name match the truck.
