Aggregate near the courthouse
Gravel, stone and clay around Benton
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists a sand and gravel operation 3.1 miles north-east of Benton and a second one 8 miles south. Dump trucks and tri-axles that shuttle aggregate from pits that close to town often sit at the pit or at the owner’s house between jobs, so tell us which of the two it is and we will plan the collection at that spot.
Grand Rivers Quarry, 14.2 miles north-east, and Grand Rivers Quarry 1373, 15.5 miles north, both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as crushed-stone quarries. If your truck hauled stone out of Grand Rivers, send a photo of the bed, the hoist and the tag axle along with the cab.
West of town, Hickory Clay Mill sits 16 miles out and is recorded by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as an industrial-mineral mine. Have the title in your name and the current Kentucky registration in the cab for a truck that worked the clay mill, and note the gate contact if it is parked on the mill’s ground.
Terminals north toward Calvert City and Paducah
Calvert City Terminal, 13 miles north of Benton, is listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as a coal preparation plant. Tractors and end-dumps that ran coal to that terminal are part of what we take in; give us the VIN and an odometer photo first, since the rest of our questions follow from those two.
The Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal at Paducah, 15.5 miles north-west, and an asphalt terminal at Kuttawa, 17 miles north-east. For a tanker tractor or asphalt distributor that loaded at either one, keep any inspection reports and tank test paperwork with the truck so they travel with the sale.
Neither terminal requires you to move the truck before selling it. Give us the street address in Paducah, Kuttawa or back home in Marshall County, and say whether a tow rig can reach it without a gate key.
Two hundred and some carriers on Benton addresses
Benton has 226 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, and 180 of them are registered for intrastate work against 46 cleared for interstate hauling. Most of those operators keep Kentucky plates and Kentucky paperwork, so a clean Kentucky title in the seller’s name is usually all a sale here needs.
Private fleets account for 163 of Benton’s carriers in the FMCSA census, meaning businesses that haul their own goods rather than freight for hire. A contractor or farm selling one truck from such a fleet should have whoever signs for the business ready to sign the title, alongside a copy of the registration.
Benton’s top fleet in FMCSA’s carrier census lists 30 power units against 12 drivers, the next 24 units with 17 drivers, and the third an even 12 and 12. Owners letting go of several units at once can send one list of VINs and locations and we will work through them together.
FMCSA’s carrier census also shows 11 new Benton carriers registered in 2024 and 5 in 2025.
Cargo and miles on Marshall County trucks
Among cargo types on FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight is claimed by 66 Benton carriers, machinery and large objects by 49, farm supplies by 36, and grain, feed and hay by 34. That spread covers lowboys, step-decks, box trucks and hopper-bottom trailers, and every one of those configurations is something we collect.
The 44 Benton carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA put a median of 13,055 miles on each truck in a year. Write the odometer reading in your first message and attach a photo of the dash, so the figure we work from is the one on the truck itself.
On driver radius, FMCSA’s carrier census counts 371 drivers here staying within 100 air miles and 162 going beyond that line. A truck that stays local is likely to be parked in or near Benton when we come for it; one that runs farther may be sitting at a customer’s yard, so tell us where.
What the Kentucky roadside stops in Benton recorded
Between 2024-08-28 and 2026-08-17, officers stopped 52 trucks belonging to Benton carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give their median model year as 2019. Roughly a third of that Benton group, 32.7 percent in FMCSA roadside inspection records, had a title year at least ten years before the stop.
A 2019 tractor and one built a decade earlier are equally welcome from a Benton seller. Whatever the year on your title, send the VIN, the registration and any service records you have kept, and photos of the cab, frame and tires.
Fields and payrolls
Marshall County herds, corn rows and bean fields
Marshall County’s 787 farms, tallied in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, lead with cattle first, then corn, then soybeans. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and the farm-plated tractors that move them out of the fields are trucks we will look at, and a farm truck sold off the place it works on is collected right there.
Benton held 3,118 jobs in 2023, and of those the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 263 in manufacturing and 100 on construction payrolls. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 59 construction establishments locally, the kind of outfits that keep dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies on the payroll.
If a construction or plant truck is titled to a company rather than to you, check with the office that the title is on hand and that someone there can sign before you contact us.
The questions we get asked in Benton
- Will you collect a dump truck sitting at one of the gravel pits by Benton? The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists sand and gravel operations 3.1 miles north-east and 8 miles south of Benton, and we collect from pits like those. - Which details matter first for a stone truck from the Grand Rivers quarries?Grand Rivers Quarry, 14.2 miles north-east of Benton in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, is the sort of site a tri-axle or end-dump works from. Start with the VIN, an odometer photo and pictures of the bed and hoist.
- We farm near Benton and have a grain hauler and a cattle pot to sell; are both of interest?Marshall County has 787 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by cattle, corn and soybeans, and grain and livestock trucks from those farms are on our list. Have the title and the farm registration together when you reach out.
- Is a truck plated for Kentucky-only hauling a problem when selling from Benton?Benton’s FMCSA carrier census shows 180 intrastate carriers out of 226, so a Kentucky-only truck is the usual case here. A Kentucky title in your name and a current registration are what we ask for.
