Lumber, freight and machinery off the London lots
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 614 active carriers based in and around London, and 488 of them run intrastate only, against 126 cleared for interstate work. For a tractor or straight truck that has stayed inside Kentucky, a Kentucky title in your name and the current registration are the two papers to find before you call.
General freight leads the cargo lines on the carrier census with 197 carriers, followed by machinery and large objects at 130 and logs, poles, beams and lumber at 117. Tell us which of those your truck hauled and what body or trailer it pulled, whether a flatbed, lowboy or log rig, and send a photo of the plate on the door jamb with the VIN.
Private fleets moving a firm’s own goods, not freight for hire, number 392 of London’s carriers on that FMCSA list. If your truck belonged to a business that moved its own stock, the title may sit in the company name; have whoever signs for the business ready to sign it over.
Log trucks, lowboys and machinery haulers
With 117 carriers registered by FMCSA to haul logs, poles, beams and lumber, log trucks and knuckle-boom rigs are part of the Laurel County fleet. If yours sits at a landing or a sawmill yard off a gravel road, give us the turn-offs and say whether a tow rig can get in when the ground is wet.
Machinery and large objects appear on the cargo lists of 130 London-area carriers in the FMCSA census, a line of work done with lowboys and heavy-haul tractors. For a tractor that has pulled oversize loads, keep any permits and service records you still hold; they show where the truck went and what it pulled.
Farm supplies show up on 68 carriers’ lists in the same census. A grain truck or a feed hauler that also works the family farm counts too, and we collect it from the barn lot as readily as from a commercial yard.
Mines and quarries within twenty miles of London
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Mosley Branch coal mine 17.9 miles south of London and the CHM 1 coal mine 19.8 miles south. A coal truck parked near either site does not need to be driven into town; send us the mine road or the lot address and the name of whoever can open the gate.
East of town, the Manchester Complex coal preparation plant sits 19 miles out on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your truck hauled to or from the plant, mention any site safety checks or inspection reports you kept, since those papers travel with the truck when it changes hands.
Clover Bottom Underground and Clover Bottom Quarry #2, both crushed-stone operations, lie 21.2 miles north-east according to MSHA. Dump trucks and tri-axles from stone work belong on our list, and photos of the bed, the hoist and the tires alongside the cab let us see the whole truck before we arrive.
Rail and road
Corbin’s rail yard and the trucks that stay close to home
Down toward Corbin, 12.2 miles south of London, the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks the CORBIN rail yard. A truck that shuttles freight to and from the yard can be collected at Corbin or at your own lot, whichever is easier for you to arrange.
Among drivers registered with London-area carriers, 1,047 work within 100 miles and 1,378 go beyond it, on FMCSA’s carrier census. If your truck runs long routes and is out of state when you decide to sell, tell us where it will be parked and we plan the collection around that spot.
London trucks log a median 20,000 miles a year across the 108 local carriers that gave FMCSA a mileage figure. Give us the odometer reading and the VIN together at the start, and the rest of our questions follow from those two.
From single owner-operators to big fleets
The three biggest fleets on FMCSA’s census for the London area run 299, 166 and 72 power units, with 400, 194 and 72 drivers. Whether you are retiring one tractor from a fleet that size or selling the only truck you own, the paperwork is the same: title, registration and a list of the units by VIN.
Laurel County’s 552 inspected trucks have a median model year of 2017.5, and 42.75 percent are ten or more years old, on FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026. Whatever the year on yours, the title, the registration and clear photos of the cab, frame and tires are what we start from.
New authorities keep arriving, too: the carrier census logs 18 new carriers in 2025 and 16 in 2024. If you started up recently and are now selling a truck still on a loan, have the lender’s name and the payoff letter ready so the lien can be cleared at collection.
Factories, farms and building sites around Laurel County
Manufacturing holds 1,711 of the 14,872 jobs located in the London area in 2023, or 11.5 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with wholesale trade at 445 and transportation and warehousing at 280. A box truck or day cab that ran between plants and distribution docks is one we collect from the plant lot or your own yard.
The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns counts 71 construction establishments here, and LEHD puts construction jobs at 247. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from building sites are on our list; send photos of any mounted equipment, such as a crane or a toolbox, along with the truck.
Cattle, horses and corn lead Laurel County’s 871 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A livestock hauler, a horse trailer rig or a grain truck parked at the farm can stay right where it is while we arrange the sale.
