Coal on the east side
Tipples half a mile from town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Four Rivers Coal Inc, a coal preparation plant, 0.5 miles east of Middlesborough, and the Middlesboro Tipple 0.6 miles east. A tractor or dump truck that hauls in and out of those two sites is effectively parked inside the town limits, so give us the street or the plant gate and a name to ask for when we arrive.
Trucks that load at a preparation plant often carry site entry records or plant safety checklists in the cab. Photograph those along with the VIN plate, the cab and the frame rails, and send them with your title details so we can match the truck to the work it has done.
Up the ridges
Two mines north-east of the Middlesboro Tipple
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the Hances Ridge Split #1 coal mine 7.7 miles north-east of the city and the Colmar mine 8.2 miles in the same direction. A truck sitting at a mine bench that far up a haul road needs a clear access description: tell us whether a lowboy can reach it, whether the gate is locked, and who holds the key.
If your truck worked those two mines and has since been moved down to a yard or a driveway in Middlesborough, say where it went. We plan the collection around wherever the truck stands today, not where it last loaded coal.
Carriers registered in a Bell County valley town
Middlesborough is home base for 85 active motor carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, from coal haulers to car carriers. FMCSA’s census also has 35 of them running interstate and 50 staying inside Kentucky, while 64 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods. Tell us whether your truck crossed state lines or stayed in Kentucky, and send the registration that goes with it.
General freight is the cargo listed by 25 of those carriers in FMCSA’s census, machinery and large objects by 16, motor vehicles by 14, and logs, poles, beams and lumber by 12. Whether yours is a flatbed that moved equipment, a car hauler, or a log truck, tell us which of those loads it carried and send a photo of the body or trailer it works with.
The same federal census logged 3 new carriers registering here in 2024 and 1 in 2025. If you are one of the newer operators and your authority is recent, have your USDOT number and the truck’s registration together when you get in touch.
From one large fleet to single trucks
Middlesborough’s biggest registered fleet runs 52 power units and 54 drivers, according to FMCSA’s carrier census; the next two list 13 units with 13 drivers and 11 units with 4 drivers. A fleet selling several tractors at once can send us one list of VINs and yard locations, and we handle each truck from that single sheet.
For an owner-operator with one truck, the title in your own name, the current Kentucky registration and a few clear photos are all we need to start.
Mileage and inspected years
Short runs and a 2018 median
Drivers working for Middlesborough carriers mostly stay close to home: FMCSA’s carrier census counts 161 who operate within 100 miles and 76 who go beyond that. Among the 25 carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median is 19,000 miles per truck each year; have the odometer reading handy when you call.
FMCSA roadside inspection records for 92 trucks from local carriers, checked between August 2024 and August 2026, give a median model year of 2018, with 38 percent of them ten or more model years old. Copy the year, make and model off your Kentucky registration into your first message to us.
If a truck from that inspected group still has its roadside inspection reports in the glovebox, send pictures of them. They confirm the VIN and the carrier it ran under in a way that matches the federal record.
Plants, contractors and cattle country around Middlesborough
Factory work holds 1,146 of the 4,832 jobs counted inside Middlesborough for 2023, a 23.7 percent share that sits well above the city’s mining and construction figures in the same Census Bureau LEHD release. Box trucks and tractors that shuttle parts and finished goods for those plants are trucks we buy, so tell us whether yours pulled a dry van, a flatbed or something else.
That LEHD release also counts 82 mining jobs, 113 in wholesale trade and 66 in construction in the city, and County Business Patterns lists 10 construction establishments. A contractor with a dump truck or a service body sitting between jobs can send us its title and photos while it waits on the lot.
Out in the county, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 77 farms in Bell County, with cattle, goats and honey as the leading products. A livestock hauler or farm truck parked in a field or barn is collected where it sits; just tell us whether the ground is passable for a tow.
The questions we get asked in Middlesborough
- My truck is at the tipple on the east side of town. Will you pick it up off the plant site? The Mine Safety and Health Administration places the Middlesboro Tipple 0.6 miles east of the city, and we pick up at plant sites like that. Give us the gate details and a contact on site so the collection is cleared with the operator.
- It hauled logs and lumber around Bell County. Will you take a log truck from Middlesborough?Twelve Middlesborough carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, and log trucks are part of what we purchase. Send photos of the bunks or trailer along with the cab and the VIN.
- My truck is parked up at a mine site north-east of the city. Do I need to bring it down?Colmar sits 8.2 miles north-east of Middlesborough in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and a truck at a site like that can stay put. Tell us how the haul road is reached and who can let us in.
- Which Kentucky documents do I gather before selling?Kentucky’s title agency issues the certificate of title, and that title in your name, plus the current registration, is the main document we ask for. Add any roadside inspection reports or service records you keep, and photos of the cab, frame and VIN plate.
