Four kinds of freight share the New Castle registrations
Twelve active carriers are registered to New Castle on FMCSA’s carrier census, and the cargo they declare splits evenly: farm supplies, general freight, machinery and large objects, and motor vehicles each have three carriers on that census. That spread means a seller here might be offering a flatbed that moves equipment, a grain or feed truck, a car hauler or a dry-van tractor, and each of those fits what we buy. Tell us which of the four your truck did, and whether a trailer is part of the sale, so the collection is planned for the whole rig.
Across the two most recent years, FMCSA’s carrier census shows a single new registration out of New Castle, in 2025, with 2024 adding none. A town adding registrations that slowly is a town where the same trucks have carried the same freight for years, and the paperwork that goes with that is what we want to see: the title, the current registration, and whatever service records have accumulated in the glovebox or the office filing cabinet.
Ten of twelve stay inside Kentucky
FMCSA’s carrier census puts ten of New Castle’s twelve carriers on intrastate-only authority and two on interstate authority, with ten of the twelve listed as private fleets. A private fleet is a business hauling its own goods, so a truck sold here is often parked behind a farm supply store, a machinery yard or a family operation’s shop rather than at a trucking terminal. We come to that spot; give us the address and the name of whoever can open the gate.
Drivers based within a hundred miles of home number 13 across the town’s carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, against 7 who go beyond that radius. Short-radius work usually means a day cab, and a day cab’s title and registration are often kept at the business rather than in the truck. Have both in hand before you send photos, and include a shot of the VIN plate so what you describe matches what we see.
Two stone quarries on either side of town
Lockport Mine, a crushed-stone quarry, sits 9.6 miles north-east of New Castle on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list of active operations. Dump trucks and tractors that pull end-dump or belly-dump trailers from a quarry like that are regular collections for us. If your truck has hauled stone out of Lockport, say so, and send photos of the bed or trailer along with the cab.
West of town, Oldham County Stone is a second crushed-stone quarry, 19.4 miles out according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A truck that has worked both pits may be parked at either site or at home between them; tell us where it is sitting now and whether the lot is reachable with a tow rig, and the pickup is arranged around that.
Freight yards at South McCormick, then the Shelbyville mix center
Go 14.3 miles north from New Castle and you reach the South McCormick rail yard, as mapped on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Trucks that transfer freight to and from a yard that size are usually day cabs with a flatbed or a van, and the registration and inspection records for them tend to travel with the truck. Keep them together when you contact us.
The Shelbyville Mix Center lies 17 miles south-west on the same North American Rail Network. A tractor that has shuttled between New Castle and Shelbyville does not need to be brought back to town to be sold; if it is parked near the yard, give us that location instead and a contact who can meet us there.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet titles, handled at the county clerk
Vehicle titles in Kentucky are issued by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and the Cabinet handles them through county clerk offices. For a New Castle seller that means the Henry County clerk is where a duplicate title is requested if the original cannot be found, and where a lien release is recorded before the truck changes hands.
Before you ask the clerk for anything, check the truck’s own paperwork: the title may be filed with the registration, the lender’s release letter or the last inspection report. Send us a photo of whatever you have, front and back, and if a page is missing we will tell you which one, so the clerk visit is a single trip.
Farm trucks from the cattle and grain operations around town
New Castle’s farm trade draws on the 719 operations that USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records for Henry County, where cattle lead, followed by corn and soybeans. Livestock trailers, grain trucks and the tractors that pull hopper-bottoms between the field and the elevator all belong on the list of trucks we purchase, and so do the farm-supply trucks that the carrier census already shows here.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts record 604 jobs in New Castle in 2023, a small base for a county seat, which fits a town where the truck being sold is as likely to be a farm’s own as a carrier’s. Send the photos from the farm lot where it sits, say whether the trailer goes with it, and include the odometer reading with the VIN.
Boone Center
The Guard center south-east toward Frankfort
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Boone National Guard Center at Frankfort as a military installation 22.2 miles south-east of New Castle. Trucks that have hauled equipment or supplies for work at a site like that often have gate logs and load records; keep those with the truck when you sell it.
If the truck is parked somewhere between New Castle and Frankfort, that is fine; the largest fleets in town have only two power units and three drivers on FMCSA’s carrier census, so the trucks we collect here are usually one at a time from a home lot or a small yard. Tell us which, and we plan around it.
The questions we get asked in New Castle
- My dump truck is still sitting at Lockport Mine, the quarry north-east of New Castle. Would you come out to the pit and collect it from the quarry lot?Lockport Mine is 9.6 miles north-east of New Castle on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from the quarry or from wherever the truck is parked. Give us the location and whoever controls access to the lot.
- With the title to my New Castle truck nowhere to be found, which Kentucky office prints a replacement for Henry County?Kentucky titles are issued by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet through county clerk offices, so a New Castle seller goes to the Henry County clerk for a duplicate. Bring your registration and identification, and tell us when the duplicate is in hand.
- Our New Castle outfit hauls its own farm supplies under a private-fleet registration rather than for hire, so does a truck like that fit your purchases?Ten of New Castle’s twelve carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census are private fleets, so most of what we buy here belongs to a business hauling its own goods. The sale works the same: title, registration, photos and the VIN.
- The truck pulled a livestock trailer on a Henry County farm. Can the trailer go with it?Henry County has 719 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture with cattle as the top product, so livestock rigs are a familiar collection for us. Say up front that the trailer is included, and send its photos and paperwork alongside the truck’s.
- With the tractor parked on a lot beside the Shelbyville Mix Center instead of back in New Castle, can you make the pickup at the yard? The Shelbyville Mix Center is 17 miles south-west of New Castle on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and we come to the truck there. Give us the lot address and a contact who can meet us at the gate.
