The Ford Truck Plant rail yard just south of town
Listed in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the FORD TRUCK PLANT rail yard lies 1.6 miles south of Orchard Grass Hills. A tractor or straight truck that shuttles loads to and from that yard is likely sitting close to home between runs. Give us the street where it usually parks and we will set the collection there.
Plenty of local owners keep a rig in a driveway or on a gravel pad off a side road. Before we arrive, check that the cab is unlocked or the key is on hand, and that nothing blocks the way out. A few photos of the tractor from each side, plus the VIN plate, help us line up the right equipment for the pickup.
Two crushed-stone quarries, one north and one south
Oldham County Stone, a crushed-stone quarry on the Mine Safety and Health Administration rolls, is 3.1 miles north of town. Jefferson County Stone, a second quarry in that Mine Safety and Health Administration register, sits 3.8 miles to the south. Dump trucks, end-dump tractors and water trucks that haul between those pits and job sites are exactly the kind of equipment we purchase from owners around here.
If your dump truck still sits at one of those quarry gates, you do not need to move it home first. Tell us which site it is at and who on the property can let us in. Have the bed type, the axle setup and the VIN written down; for a quarry truck those three answer most of what we would otherwise ask by phone.
Dredge Miss Kate, Bernhard Oppermann and the Louisville Yard
Eleven miles west, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists three operations together: the Louisville Yard mineral processing plant and two sand and gravel operations, Bernhard Oppermann and Dredge Miss Kate. Trucks from Orchard Grass Hills that run aggregate out of those river sites may end the week parked over there rather than back in Oldham County.
Where that is the case, leave the truck at the yard and send us the address with a gate contact. We collect in Jefferson County as readily as at your house. Photos of the frame rails, the tires and the dump body, taken where the truck stands, let us see what you describe without a second visit.
Containers and barges near Appliance Park
Roughly 11.9 miles south-west, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Louisville-Jefferson Port, and the same agency puts the Appliance Park rail intermodal ramp at 12 miles in that direction. Day cabs pulling container chassis off that ramp, or tractors moving river cargo from the port, often belong to owners living up here in the hills.
For a tractor that has worked those terminals, have the registration and any service records together before you call. If the truck is parked inside a port or ramp lot, say so up front, since we will need to arrange entry with whoever runs that lot.
A missing title and the Oldham clerk’s Crestwood office
Orchard Grass Hills owners deal with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s county clerk offices for any title work. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet lists the nearest as the Oldham County Clerk - Crestwood Branch Office at 6710 W. Hwy 146, Crestwood, 40014, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s listing puts it 2.5 miles from town.
If the title has gone missing, start a duplicate at that Crestwood branch before we schedule the pickup, and bring your ID and the VIN. A truck with a loan still on it needs the lienholder’s release as well; ask the clerk which form they want for that.
Farm trucks among Oldham County’s horse and soybean farms
Around Orchard Grass Hills, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 410 farms in Oldham County, with equine operations ranked first and soybeans and bison following. Horse farms keep straight trucks, flatbeds and stock haulers on hand, and grain growers keep tandem trucks for harvest.
A farm truck may only have been titled once and registered under a farm plate. Find the title in the farm office files, note the plate type, and take pictures of the bed or the body in the barn or field where it sits; we will come to that spot.
