Covington’s two fuel terminals, west of Southgate
The Energy Information Administration lists a Covington petroleum product terminal 1.8 miles west of Southgate and a second Covington terminal 4.2 miles to the north-west. A tank truck or tractor that loads at either gate may be parked on a Covington lot rather than at a Southgate address, so tell us which terminal it sits nearest and who holds the keys.
If your tanker has run product out of those Covington racks, gather the tank inspection certificates and any loading-rack paperwork you still have and photograph the tank shell, the valves and the cab. Those records travel with the truck and answer questions before we ask them.
Yards near the river
DeCoursey to the south, Ludlow across the county line
On the North American Rail Network, maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the DeCoursey yard lies 4.2 miles south of Southgate and the Ludlow yard 4.4 miles west. Day cabs that shuttle trailers or containers to and from those tracks often end their shift in a yard lot instead of a driveway.
When a tractor is parked near DeCoursey or Ludlow, send us the street address of the lot, the name of whoever can open the gate, and the VIN from the door jamb. A clear photo of the odometer and one of each side of the tractor complete the picture.
Black River to Petersburg
Quarries and gravel pits south-east and west
Two crushed-stone quarries appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records south-east of town: the Underground Black River Operation at 18.8 miles and Butler Quarry at 19.9 miles. Dump trucks, tri-axles and lowboy tractors that haul from quarry faces like these are trucks we buy, and we collect them at the pit if that is where they stand.
West of Southgate, the Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists Belleview Sand & Gravel Inc 19.8 miles out and Petersburg Sand 21.8 miles out. If your aggregate truck is kept at one of those operations, ask the site office whether a visitor needs a pass, and let us know before we arrange the collection.
For a quarry truck, keep the body and hoist service notes, any scale tickets showing the configuration it ran, and photos of the bed, the tailgate and the axles. A seller with that folder in hand rarely gets a second round of questions.
Ninety-nine Southgate construction jobs
Southgate held 799 jobs in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and 99 of them, or 12.4 percent, were in construction. Contractors here run dump bodies, flatbeds, stake trucks and small tractors between job sites, and those are vehicles we take whatever their body style.
A construction truck in Southgate may spend its nights on a contractor’s yard or at a job site rather than at home. Tell us where it is parked, whether it can be reached by a tow or a driver, and whether any attachments or tool boxes stay with it.
Hay, horses, title
Southgate’s county: cattle, corn and equine
For its 493 farms, Campbell County shows cattle, corn and equine as the top three in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Cattle haulers, grain trucks and horse-hauling rigs from those farms are all trucks we buy, collected at the farm itself.
For a farm truck, find the title and the most recent registration card first, since farm vehicles sometimes sit untitled in a drawer for years. Note any farm plate it carries and send photos of the bed or box, the hitch and the cab.
Kentucky title, registration and Southgate records
A Kentucky title in the seller’s name is the main document we need, together with the registration and any lien release if the truck was ever financed. Where the title is missing, the state’s title agency issues replacements, and starting that request early keeps the sale moving.
Service records, inspection reports and a list of parts replaced all help us understand a truck from Campbell County before we see it. Photos taken in daylight from all four corners, plus the dash and the VIN plate, round out what we ask for.
The questions we get asked in Southgate
- A Covington fuel terminal is where my tanker stays parked; must it come to Southgate first? The Energy Information Administration places that Covington terminal 1.8 miles west of Southgate, and we collect the truck where it stands. Send the terminal lot’s street address and the name of the person holding the tanker’s keys.
- Do you buy dump trucks from the quarries south-east of town?Butler Quarry and the Underground Black River Operation, crushed-stone sites that Mine Safety and Health Administration records place 19.9 and 18.8 miles south-east, are where dump trucks and tri-axles like the ones we purchase load. Send the VIN and photos of the bed and axles to start.
- My Campbell County farm truck’s title has gone missing; who replaces it?Campbell County’s 493 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture are served by the state’s title agency, which issues replacement titles; apply there and tell us the request is under way when you contact us.
