A rail yard below the hill, fuel racks up the road
Just 1.6 miles east of Taylor Mill, down off the ridge, the DeCoursey rail yard shows up on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. If your tractor or straight truck has shuttled loads to and from that yard, give us the street address or lot name where it stands now and we will plan the collection there.
Three miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal at Covington, and it lists Bromley Terminal KY 6.1 miles to the north-west. If your truck hauled fuel or served either site, keep its tank or trailer paperwork together with the title, and tell us whether the unit is a tractor alone or comes with equipment attached.
Ludlow has a second rail yard on the North American Rail Network, 6.1 miles north-west of town along the river side of the county. Owners whose truck sits near Ludlow or Bromley rather than at home in Taylor Mill can leave it where it is; send us the location and the name of whoever can let us on the lot.
Quarries south-east and gravel pits to the west
Two crushed-stone sites appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records south-east of town: the Underground Black River Operation at 16.6 miles and Butler Quarry at 17 miles. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauled aggregate out of either belongs on a call with us; photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab, and note the axle setup when you write in.
Westward, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records Belleview Sand & Gravel Inc 17.7 miles out and a sand and gravel site called Plant #1 at 20.4 miles. If your truck is parked at one of those pits instead of in Kenton County, the pickup can happen there, provided someone can meet us or tell us where the keys are.
Twenty-three registered carriers, mostly close to home
Five list machinery and large objects, three list farm supplies and three list household goods, so the trucks on offer here range from flatbeds to moving vans; tell us which body your truck carries.
On FMCSA’s carrier census, 21 of those Taylor Mill outfits report drivers working within 100 miles and 10 report drivers going beyond that. The same FMCSA census shows thirteen operating intrastate, ten interstate, and fourteen running as private fleets hauling their own goods. If your truck has stayed inside Kentucky, have the state registration on hand; if it has crossed state lines, bring the apportioned plate papers as well.
No outfit here runs a big operation. The biggest three on FMCSA’s census run 3 power units with 3 drivers, 2 units with 4 drivers, and 2 units with 2 drivers. Selling one truck from a two- or three-unit operation is routine for us, and so is selling the whole set at once; list each VIN and where each one is kept.
Recent startups and their paperwork
Two new carriers registered in Taylor Mill in 2025, according to FMCSA’s carrier census, after none in 2024. An owner who started up recently and is now stepping back can sell the truck with a lien still on it; tell us the lender’s name so the payoff can be arranged with the title release.
For a truck bought in the last year or two, the bill of sale and the Kentucky title in your name are the two documents that matter most. Have the registration current where you can, and if the title is still in transit from the state’s title agency, say so before we schedule anything.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 1,383 jobs in Taylor Mill in 2023, with manufacturing holding 253 of them, an 18.3 percent share. Wholesale trade accounts for 50 jobs, or 3.6 percent, in the same LEHD figures. Box trucks and straight trucks that deliver to and from those workplaces are the kind we collect from shop lots and driveways alike.
Builders are part of the local picture as well, with 44 construction establishments tallied by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Contractors with a dump truck, a stake bed or a service body they no longer use can send photos of the work body as well as the chassis, along with any service records the shop kept.
Honey, horses and goats in the county’s south end
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 453 farms in Kenton County, and it lists honey, equine and goats among the county’s top farm products. A farm truck or a tractor that pulled horse or livestock trailers out of the south end of the county can be sold from the barn lot where it stands.
If the truck was registered under a farm or a family member, tell us whose name is on the title before we come out, so the right person can sign on the day.
The questions we get asked in Taylor Mill
- My dump truck is parked at a quarry near Butler, not in Taylor Mill. Does your driver come out to the quarry itself?Butler Quarry sits 17 miles south-east of Taylor Mill in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we pick up at the site where the truck is parked. Give us the quarry contact who can let a driver past the scale house.
- My farm truck is registered in Kenton County under my father’s name. Is that a problem for selling it?Kenton County holds 453 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and a truck from one of them sells the same way as any other: the person named on the title signs it over, so tell us whose name is on it and we will plan around them.
