In-state routes, interstate plates and Union’s private fleets
Private fleets make up 59 of the 100 active Union carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, meaning trucks owned by firms that move their own goods. If your truck belongs to a business whose main work is something other than trucking, the person who signs the title is often the company owner or an officer, so tell us whose name is on it when you first get in touch.
Sixty-six of Union’s carriers stay inside Kentucky and the other 34 run interstate, FMCSA’s census shows. An intrastate truck may carry Kentucky registration only, while an interstate one usually has apportioned plates and a cab card; send a photo of whichever registration document is in the truck so we know which kind we are collecting.
Three fleets registered in Union run 32, 14 and 13 power units, with 26, 13 and 11 drivers, per FMCSA’s census. If you are selling several trucks from a yard that size, list each VIN with its location in the lot, and we can plan to collect them in one visit instead of one at a time.
Dry vans, lowboys and log trailers
General freight is the most common cargo among Union’s carriers, with 44 of them listing it in FMCSA’s carrier census, followed by 22 hauling machinery and large objects. A dry-van tractor or a straight box truck from that first group is easy to describe: send the VIN, a photo of the door sticker and the cab, and the trailer setup if one goes with it.
Sixteen Union carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber in the FMCSA census, and seven list garbage and refuse. A log truck or a roll-off sells with its equipment as one unit, so tell us what is mounted on the frame, such as a loader, a bunk set or a hoist, and whether that equipment is staying with the truck.
Lowboys and step-decks for the 22 machinery haulers counted by FMCSA often sit at a job site rather than a yard. Give us the site address and the name of someone who can let us in, and the truck can stay exactly where the last load left it.
Stone and sand to the south and west
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists MLC - Verona, a crushed-stone quarry 9 miles south-west of Union, and Belleview Sand & Gravel 9.2 miles to the west. Dump trucks that load at pits like these tend to be parked at the operator’s yard between shifts; tell us the gate hours so the pickup fits around the loading schedule.
Farther out, the Warsaw Plant sand and gravel operation lies 11.8 miles south-west and Butler Quarry 20.6 miles south-east, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your tri-axle or tandem has a mine-site inspection sticker or a service log from one of those pits, photograph it alongside the odometer and the VIN plate.
Terminals and yards toward the river
Two petroleum product terminals sit north-east of town on the Energy Information Administration’s list: Bromley Terminal at 10.9 miles and the Covington terminal at 11.9. A tanker tractor that has pulled from either one should come with its hazmat registration details and any tank test reports you hold, since those go with the truck’s paperwork set.
DeCoursey’s rail yard lies 11.5 miles east of Union and Ludlow’s 12 miles north-east, on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. A day cab that shuttles trailers or containers to those yards can be collected from a drop lot nearby; just send the lot address and say whether it is fenced.
Union’s employers, contractors and Boone County farmland
Union had 1,413 jobs in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with 78 in wholesale trade and 52 in construction. Wholesale delivery trucks and contractor dumps from those employers are usually parked at the business itself, so a weekday pickup with someone on site is the simplest arrangement.
Forty-nine construction businesses operate here on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally. A builder selling a flatbed or dump truck from a contractor’s yard should have the title, current registration and the keys together in one place before we arrive.
Boone County had 727 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by cattle, soybeans and horses. A grain truck, a livestock hauler or a horse-van tractor parked on a farm can be collected from the barn lot; tell us whether the lane takes a full-size tow rig.
How far and how new
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 148 drivers at Union carriers working within 100 miles of base and 83 working farther out. Among 16 carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median was 23,167 miles per truck a year; have the current odometer reading handy, because it is the first figure we ask for.
On FMCSA roadside inspection records from September 2024 to August 2026, the 45 trucks from Union carriers that were inspected had a median model year of 2019, and 24.4 percent were ten or more years old. Either way, the model year and VIN off the door jamb tell us which truck you have.
Union added six carriers in 2024 and four more in 2025 on FMCSA’s census of new registrations. If you started your authority recently and are selling a truck still under a lender’s lien, tell us the lender’s name so the payoff and title release can be handled as part of the sale.
The questions we get asked in Union
- The dump truck sits in a pit yard out by Verona near Union; does it have to come to me first?MLC - Verona lies 9 miles south-west of Union on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from the quarry yard itself. Send the yard’s gate hours and the name of whoever holds the key on the day.
- I haul out of the Bromley or Covington fuel terminals; which papers go with the tractor?Bromley Terminal and the Covington terminal sit about 11 to 12 miles north-east of Union on the Energy Information Administration’s list. Have the title, registration, hazmat paperwork and any tank test reports together with the truck.
- My truck works a Boone County cattle or horse farm. Will you pick it up from the barn lot?Boone County’s 727 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture are mostly cattle, soybean and horse operations, and we pick up from the farm. Send the address and a note on how wide the lane and gate are.
