Gravel dredges and a mineral plant toward the river
Bernhard Oppermann and Dredge Miss Kate, both sand and gravel operations, sit about 4.2 miles west of Windy Hills according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls aggregate from those dredges is the kind of vehicle we collect, and it can stay parked where it is between loads while we arrange to pick it up.
Louisville Yard, a mineral processing plant listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration at the same 4.2-mile distance west, is another stop for bulk haulers out of this part of the county. If your truck has run gravel or processed mineral, send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab along with the VIN, and mention which of the three sites it worked.
South along the Ohio
Ohio River docks plus Buechel and Appliance Park boxes
Roughly 5.9 miles south of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Louisville-Jefferson Port on the Ohio. Tractors that move freight off its docks are welcome, whether the truck is kept in Windy Hills or at a yard nearer the water; give us the address where it sits and we plan the collection there.
Two container ramps appear in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list close by: Appliance Park, 6.2 miles south, and Buechel, 6.3 miles to the south-west. A day cab or sleeper that has pulled boxes off either ramp sells best with its registration current and its service records together in one folder, so have both ready before you call.
Ford yard east
The Ford Truck Plant yard and Appliance Park sidings
East of Windy Hills by about 6.3 miles, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the FORD TRUCK PLANT rail yard. Shuttle tractors and straight trucks that run parts or finished loads near that yard fit what we buy; tell us the make, model year and axle setup first.
The North American Rail Network also puts the APPLIANCE PARK yard 7 miles south, right beside the ramp of the same name. Trucks that shuttle between these sidings and nearby warehouses are welcome too; send photos of the frame rails, fifth wheel and tires with your first message.
Liberty Street
Replacing paperwork at the Elections Center downtown
Windy Hills owners deal with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which issues titles through its county clerk offices. For a Windy Hills truck the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet lists the Jefferson County Clerk, at the Elections Center, 1000 E. Liberty Street in Louisville, 40204-1029, about 5.4 miles from town, in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s office list.
Should the paper title be missing, ask the clerk there for a replacement before we schedule pickup, and keep the registration and your photo ID with it. If a lender is still shown on the title, bring the lien release along with it.
Horses, cattle, beans
Hay wagons, horse trailers and soybean haulers
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 264 farms in Jefferson County, with equine, cattle and soybeans listed as the top categories. Livestock haulers, grain trucks and flatbeds used around horse barns and bean fields here are on our list, and they can be collected right from the farm gate.
For a farm truck, gather the title, the farm registration if it carries one, and any record of hauling hay, horses or soybeans. A few photos of the bed or trailer hookup let us see the setup without asking you to move the truck.
Local workplaces
Garages, driveways and small lots
Windy Hills had 430 jobs located within its limits in 2023, as reported in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Most working trucks tied to this address are therefore garaged at a home or a small lot, and that is where we arrange to load them.
When you reach out, give us the street address, whether a tow truck can reach the vehicle, and a phone number for whoever holds the keys. With those three things, the rest of the arrangement is straightforward.
