Yards north of town
Two rail yards and a fuel terminal a mile north
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places both the Avondale Intrmdl yard and the Avondale (BNSF) yard 1.2 miles north of town. If your tractor has shuttled boxes in and out of those yards, write down which yard it worked and send the VIN along with photos of the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel.
At the same 1.2 miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists the Avondale petroleum product terminal. A tanker or tractor that has loaded there may still be parked near the terminal fence; tell us whose lot it stands on and who can let a driver through, and we plan the pickup at that spot rather than asking you to move it.
International-Matex Tank Terminals (IMTT), a liquid bulk terminal 1.4 miles north on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, is another gate a local tank rig may know well. Keep any terminal access records or loading paperwork with the title and send copies along with the photos.
Ramps near the river
Intermodal ramps on both sides of the river bend
Two New Orleans intermodal ramps appear in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings near Avondale: one 1.3 miles to the north-west and another 3 miles to the north-east. Two carriers based in town list intermodal containers as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, so a day cab with a chassis history here is a familiar sight to us.
If your container tractor sits at one of those ramps between moves, give us the ramp, the gate it is closest to and a contact name. Have the registration and the most recent inspection report ready, since those two documents answer most of the questions we ask about a drayage unit.
Van, refuse and tow
General freight leads the local carrier roster
General freight is the cargo class listed by 23 Avondale carriers, out of 26 active ones on FMCSA’s carrier census. Three list garbage, refuse and trash, and two list driveaway or towaway work, so the trucks parked in local yards range from van tractors to roll-off and refuse bodies.
Of those 26, the federal carrier census shows 10 operating interstate, 16 intrastate and 8 as private fleets hauling their own goods. A private fleet selling a unit should have the company title and the name of whoever signs for the business ready before we talk.
New registrations continue too: FMCSA records show 2 carriers starting here in 2024 and 3 in 2025. An owner-operator who started recently and now wants to sell can do so with the title in hand and a lienholder release if the truck was financed.
Unit counts and radius
Fleet sizes and driver radius
One Avondale fleet holds 122 power units and 125 drivers on FMCSA’s carrier census, while the next two hold 14 and 13 power units. Whether you are selling one tractor or a group, a list of VINs with the unit numbers lets us look at every truck at once.
Avondale carriers report 154 drivers inside a 100-mile radius and 29 outside it in their FMCSA filings. Among the 8 carriers reporting mileage, the median sits at 18,697 miles per truck, per the same federal census, so have the odometer reading handy when you call.
West-bank employers
Manufacturing and warehousing jobs in town
Manufacturing holds 306 of Avondale’s 1,059 jobs and transportation and warehousing 211, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Box trucks and straight trucks that serve plants and warehouses on this stretch of the west bank are part of what we collect.
Wood Materials - Harahan, a sand and gravel operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 2.5 miles north of town, is one of the aggregate sites close by. A dump truck that has hauled aggregate from that site can be picked up where it is parked; send photos of the bed and the cab, plus the title.
Roads and parish
Bridges, farms and the paperwork to have ready
Six bridges are recorded around Avondale in the National Bridge Inventory, and none of them carries a load posting or sits under 14 feet. Still, tell us about any gate width or yard clearance at the address before we send a driver.
Kinder Morgan’s liquid bulk terminal, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 3.4 miles north-east, and Jefferson Parish’s 20 farms, mostly cattle in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, round out the work nearby. If a title for a truck from any of these jobs has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues the duplicate, and you can start the sale while that request is in.
The questions we get asked in Avondale
- My tractor is parked by the BNSF yard north of Avondale. Should I haul it somewhere closer to the highway for the handover? The Avondale (BNSF) yard is 1.2 miles north of town on the North American Rail Network, and we come to the tractor where it stands. Name the yard entrance nearest the tractor and the person holding the key for it.
- My Avondale refuse truck is idle in a parish yard. Would you take a packer that has sat there since the route ended?Three Avondale carriers list garbage, refuse and trash in FMCSA’s carrier census, and refuse trucks are on the list of what we purchase. Photograph the packer body and the cab, then send those with the VIN and the title.
- I lost the title for my Jefferson Parish truck. Can the sale start before the duplicate arrives? In Jefferson Parish, a missing title is replaced through the state’s title agency. Ask for the duplicate, send us the VIN and registration in the meantime, and we line up the rest of the sale.
