North to the river
Bayou tractors bound for Good Hope and the Port of South Louisiana
Good Hope, a liquid bulk terminal that the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 11.7 miles north of Des Allemands, sits on the same stretch of river as the St. Rose petroleum product terminal, which the Energy Information Administration puts 12.3 miles to the north-east. If your tractor pulled tank trailers into either gate, tell us which one and keep the site entry records or terminal paperwork with the title.
Up the road at 14.3 miles north, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Port of South Louisiana. A truck that shuttles between the dock and a yard in Boutte can stay parked where it is; give us the address and a gate contact, and we arrange collection at that spot.
Photos help most when they show the tractor as it sits in the yard: both sides of the cab, the fifth wheel, the tires and the VIN plate on the door jamb.
Sand off the pit floor
Bayou dump trucks hauling north to Hahnville
Two sand and gravel operations, Hahnville Pit and Hahnville Sand Pit, appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records at 11.7 and 12.1 miles north of town. Dump trucks and end-dump trailers that loaded at those pits are trucks we buy, whether they sit at the pit, at a contractor’s lot or in a driveway in Des Allemands.
For a dump truck, send the VIN, a shot of the bed raised if it can be raised, and the registration. Tell us which of the two Hahnville pits it loaded at, so we know where to look for it.
Container tractors working Destrehan and Avondale yards
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the Destrehan rail yard 11.7 miles north-east of Des Allemands and the Avondale intermodal yard 17.6 miles east. Day cabs that pull containers off those tracks are tractors we buy.
East along the same corridor, 17.4 miles out, sits the New Orleans rail intermodal ramp, per the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A container tractor based near any of those three rail points can be collected from the yard it returns to; tell us the yard name and the hours it is open.
Small bayou outfits
Nine of ten Des Allemands carriers stay in Louisiana
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 10 active carriers based in Des Allemands, 9 of them operating only inside Louisiana and 1 crossing state lines, with 3 running private fleets. An intrastate truck still carries a Louisiana title and registration, and those two documents are what we ask for first.
On FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight is the cargo 9 of those carriers report, with 3 hauling machinery and large objects, 3 moving motor vehicles and 2 carrying refrigerated food. A reefer unit, a car hauler or a lowboy tractor all fit what we buy; tell us the trailer type and whether it goes with the tractor.
Fleets here are small: the biggest on the federal census runs 3 power units with 3 drivers, and FMCSA records 2 new carriers registering in 2025 against none in 2024. One owner selling one truck is the usual case, and the paperwork for that is short.
Warehousing jobs along the bayou
Of the 578 jobs counted in Des Allemands for 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 359 in transportation and warehousing, a 62.1 percent share. Box trucks, straight trucks and tractors tied to that work are all trucks we look at.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 44 farms in the parish that holds Des Allemands. A farm truck or grain hauler parked on one of them qualifies too; send its title, its plate number and a few photos taken where it is parked.
ABC Title of Boutte, the nearby OMV office
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles lists ABC Title of Boutte, one of its OMV offices, at 100 Melonie Street, Suite D, Boutte, 70039, which the agency’s office list puts 8.3 miles from Des Allemands. If the title is missing, that office can issue a duplicate before the sale.
Bring the registration, your ID and the VIN when you go to Boutte. If a lender is still named on the title, ask the lender for a lien release and carry it with you, so the duplicate comes back clear.
The questions we get asked in Des Allemands
- Can a tractor be picked up inside the Good Hope terminal yard?Good Hope sits 11.7 miles north of Des Allemands on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ terminal list, and we collect from terminal yards like it; send the gate address and a contact who can let the driver in.
- Which OMV office replaces a lost title for a Des Allemands seller?ABC Title of Boutte, at 100 Melonie Street, Suite D, is an OMV office the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles places 8.3 miles from town; bring your ID, registration and the VIN.
- Is a dump truck hauling from Hahnville Sand Pit something you take?Hahnville Pit and Hahnville Sand Pit both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records north of town, and dump trucks working them are ones we buy; send the VIN and photos of the bed.
- Will you buy a truck that never leaves Louisiana roads?Nine of the 10 carriers FMCSA’s census lists in Des Allemands are intrastate, so an in-state truck is the common case here; a Louisiana title and registration are all we need to start.
