Dry vans, lowboys and oilfield rigs in Duson
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 22 active motor carriers registered in Duson, and 15 of them mark general freight as cargo they carry. If your truck is a box truck or a tractor that pulled dry vans for one of them, have the title, the current registration and a few clear photos of the cab and frame ready before you call.
Six of those Duson carriers list machinery and large objects, five list oilfield equipment, and four list logs, poles, beams or lumber, according to the same FMCSA census. Flatbeds, lowboys and winch trucks set up for that work are ones we collect; tell us what the truck was rigged for so the questions fit the equipment.
Twelve carriers in town run intrastate only and ten cross state lines, while ten are private fleets hauling their own goods, as FMCSA registrations show. A private-fleet truck still needs its title in the owner’s name, so check the name on it matches the business selling.
Small outfits on the edge of Lafayette
By FMCSA’s census, Duson’s top fleet holds eight power units against five drivers, the next seven units with eight drivers, and a third just two units and three drivers.
Half a dozen Duson carriers report yearly mileage to FMCSA, and their median truck covers 16,000 miles. Drivers working within a 100-mile radius number 11 in that census, against 24 who go farther. Whichever kind your truck is, note the odometer reading and the VIN; those two answer most of our first questions.
East to the railhead
Lafayette yard and the fuel terminals east and north
Eight point one miles east of Duson, the Lafayette rail yard appears on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that shuttled loads to that yard may be parked closer to Lafayette than to home; give us the street address wherever it stands and we come there.
Anse La Butte Terminal, a petroleum product terminal, is 14.6 miles east, and the Opelousas terminal sits 24.4 miles north, as the Energy Information Administration records them. If your truck hauled fuel between those sites, send photos of the tank and its plates along with the cab, plus any terminal paperwork you kept.
Pits south-east toward Verot
Heading south-east, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists LA 82 / Verot Pit at 15.5 miles and Legacy Aggregates LLC at 18.8 miles, both sand and gravel operations. Dump trucks and end-dump trailers that ran between those pits and Duson job sites are welcome here.
For a dump truck, photograph the bed, the hoist and the tires as well as the cab, and say whether it sits at a pit or at your place. If the truck is behind a gate, tell us who can open it on the day of collection.
Construction work and farm country around town
Duson held 362 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns, also from the Census Bureau, records 40 construction establishments for the area. Contractors with a flatbed, a dump truck or a utility body sitting idle between jobs can sell it from the yard where it is stored.
Across Lafayette Parish, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 502 farms, with cattle, soybeans and foliage plants at the top of the list. A cattle hauler, grain truck or nursery box truck parked on a farm can be collected right there; have the title in hand and tell us which gate to use.
Titles in this state come from the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, and its OMV offices handle a duplicate when the original is lost. The nearest one the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles lists is Ridge Notary Services, LLC, at 292 Ridge Road, Suite 2, Lafayette, 70506, about 7.8 miles from Duson.
Bring your ID and the VIN to that Ridge Road office if the title has gone missing, and ask for a duplicate in the name now on record. If a lender still shows on the title, have the lien release with you as well, so the paperwork is complete when we collect.
