Sand pits on one side, rail yards on the other
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Wood Materials - Harahan, a sand and gravel operation 1.2 miles south of Elmwood, and a second Wood Materials site 2.6 miles west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate out of either pit can be collected from the pit gate or from your yard; tell us which, and who holds the key.
To the north, the North American Rail Network shows the MAYS yard 1.3 miles away, and further south the AVONDALE (UP) yard sits 2.5 miles from town. For a tractor that has worked between these yards, send the VIN, a clear shot of the cab plate and photos of both sides of the truck.
Day cabs off the New Orleans intermodal ramp
Just 1.4 miles north-west, the New Orleans rail intermodal ramp is listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Container work off a ramp like that is mostly day cab territory, and a day cab that lives on short drayage turns is the kind of tractor we collect in Elmwood.
Before we come for it, have the title in your name and the current registration in the cab. If the tractor is parked in a drayage lot near the ramp rather than at home, give us the lot’s address and a phone number for whoever opens the gate.
Petroleum and liquid bulk terminals around Harahan
According to the Energy Information Administration, the MARRERO petroleum product terminal is 1.8 miles west and the AVONDALE terminal 2.5 miles south. A tank tractor that has loaded at those racks can be sold as it is parked; tell us whether the trailer goes with it or stays behind.
International-Matex Tank Terminals (IMTT), a liquid bulk terminal 2.4 miles south, also appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. Keep any site entry cards, hazmat placard records or annual inspection reports with the truck. They show us where it has worked without guessing.
Beverage, moving and general freight carriers in Elmwood
Elmwood has 40 active carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, and 28 of them list general freight, 8 household goods, 7 beverages and 7 paper products. A beverage route truck or a moving van is as welcome here as a highway tractor, and photos of the box or body help as much as photos of the cab.
Of those 40, FMCSA records 23 as interstate, 17 as intrastate and 25 as private fleets hauling their own goods. The three biggest operations on that census run 82, 75 and 26 power units, while the carrier census also shows 2 new carriers registering in 2025 and 4 in 2024. Whether you run one truck or are thinning out a fleet of dozens, list the VINs and we will work through them together.
Driver records filed with FMCSA put 450 drivers within 100 miles of base and 193 beyond it, and nine carriers reporting mileage show a median of 20,000 miles per truck a year. Local tractors like those can be collected from a shop lot, a customer’s dock or your driveway.
What Elmwood’s tractors looked like at the scales
Between 2024-08-29 and 2026-08-26, inspectors stopped 249 Elmwood-based trucks, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give them a median model year of 2022, with 18.07 percent at ten years or older. A late-model tractor and one from the older share go through the same steps with us.
Whatever the year, we ask for the same things: the title, the registration, any service records you kept, and photos of the cab, the frame, the tires and the odometer. With those in hand the conversation is about the truck itself.
Jefferson Parish jobs that keep trucks moving
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 26,785 jobs in the area, with manufacturing at 4,285 and wholesale trade at 4,227. Box trucks and tractors that deliver to warehouses and plant docks around Elmwood are the trucks we see from those employers.
Transportation and warehousing accounts for 2,066 of those LEHD jobs and construction for 1,607. Separately, County Business Patterns counts 159 construction establishments and 6 warehousing establishments, and a contractor’s dump truck or flatbed parked at a job site can be picked up there.
Even farm trucks turn up: USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lists 20 farms in Jefferson Parish, with cattle the top product. A stock trailer tractor or a ranch flatbed is a truck we will come and look at.
