Sand and gravel pits up the highway toward Abbeville
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the LA 82 / Verot Pit, a sand and gravel operation, 6.9 miles north of Erath, and Legacy Aggregates LLC 9.2 miles to the north-east. Dump trucks and tractors pulling end-dumps out of pits like these are trucks we buy, and if yours is still parked at a pit gate, give us the name of the operation and who holds the key so the pickup can be set up there.
Pit work leaves a truck parked wherever the last load was dropped, so start with the VIN, a clear photo of the plate and the odometer reading. Add pictures of the bed, the hoist and the cab, and note whether the truck sits on gravel or pavement; that tells us what our driver needs to reach it.
Salt, rail and the New Iberia corridor
East of Erath, the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the New Iberia rail yard 11.5 miles away, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the New Iberia Plant, a mineral processing plant, at 12.1 miles. A tractor that shuttled loads between the yard and the plant can be collected from either side of the parish line, so tell us which lot it is in.
Weeks Island Mine and Mill, an industrial-mineral mine on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 17.2 miles south-east of town. If your truck served that site and you have any gate passes, site inspection sheets or service logs from the job, send copies with the photos so the truck’s working history arrives with it.
Heading north, the Lafayette rail yard sits 19.1 miles from Erath on the North American Rail Network, and the Energy Information Administration lists the Anse La Butte Terminal, a petroleum product terminal, 21.7 miles out in the same direction. Tank tractors and day cabs from that run are on our list. Our driver collects the truck from the lot near the terminal or the yard where it stands.
For a fuel tractor, have the registration and the title in the same folder before you call, and list the trailer separately if it is staying with you. That keeps the sale to the unit you want gone.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 10 active carriers based in Erath: four list general freight, four list machinery and large objects, three list oilfield equipment and two list motor vehicles. Seven run interstate, three stay intrastate, and six are private fleets hauling their own goods, so a lowboy tractor, a car hauler and a flatbed could all come from the same few streets here.
In FMCSA’s carrier census, 19 drivers on Erath’s registrations work beyond the hundred-mile radius and 15 stay inside it. The three biggest fleets in town run six, five and four power units, each with six drivers, so a seller here is usually an owner with one truck or a small yard of them; we can take one unit or several at once.
Erath’s farm trucks and work trucks
Around Erath and across the rest of Vermilion Parish, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,113 farms, with rice, cattle and horses listed as the top products. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and the tractors that pull them are trucks we purchase, and they are often parked at a barn or field edge, so give us the road and a landmark.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 10 construction establishments in the parish, and the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show 331 jobs located in Erath in 2023. Contractors with a dump truck or a flatbed sitting between jobs can send us the VIN and photos from wherever the truck is parked.
A lost title five miles away in Abbeville
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles lists SOS Notary and Title Services, LLC, one of its OMV offices, at 112 S Louisiana Street, Suite 3, Abbeville, 70510, 5.8 miles from Erath. If the title to your truck is missing, that is the nearest place to apply for a replacement, and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles also explains used-vehicle title and registration on its Express Lane site.
Bring the VIN, your registration and photo identification when you visit the Abbeville office. If a lender is still shown on the title, ask the lender for a lien release first, since that paper travels with the title when we collect the truck.
