Sell your semi truck for cash in Gretna the easy and convenient way

Gretna sits on the West Bank of the river in Jefferson Parish, with petroleum terminals, liquid bulk tank farms and the Gouldsboro rail yard all inside two miles of the courthouse. The tractors, tankers and flatbeds that shuttle between those sites are the trucks we buy here.

Tank farms

Fuel and liquid bulk terminals on the West Bank

The Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals named Gretna, one 0.9 miles north-west of town and one a mile due west. For a tank truck or day cab that loads at either rack, send the street address of the yard where it is parked and the name of whoever holds the gate key.

A mile west, IMTT - Gretna appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings as a liquid bulk terminal, with New Orleans II a further half mile out at 1.5 miles. If your tractor pulled tank trailers between these docks, put the trailer type and the terminals it served in your first message, and attach any site safety or inspection sheets you kept.

If a tank trailer is sold with the tractor, keep its inspection certificates with the title. Have the VIN, the plate and the Louisiana registration card together before we talk, and photograph the tank’s data plate as well as the cab.

Gouldsboro and the Napoleon Avenue intermodal yard

Gouldsboro, a rail yard 1.6 miles north of Gretna, is on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Across the river 3.3 miles to the west, the same rail network from the Federal Railroad Administration places the Napoleon Ave ICTF, an intermodal container transfer yard.

Of the carriers FMCSA’s carrier census records here, 11 list intermodal containers as cargo. A chassis-pulling day cab that runs between those two yards may be sitting at a drayage lot rather than at your home; tell us which lot, and whether the truck can be reached without moving other equipment first.

West Bank motor carriers and their freight

Gretna is home base for 81 active motor carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, from lumber haulers to container draymen. In that FMCSA census, 56 list general freight, and nine each report logs, poles, beams and lumber or machinery and large objects. Flatbeds, step decks and lowboys sit alongside the dry vans, and we buy across all of those body types.

By operation type, 47 of those carriers run intrastate, 33 run interstate and 16 are private fleets hauling their own goods, according to the same federal census. A truck that never left Louisiana still needs its title and current registration; one that crossed state lines should come with any apportioned registration paperwork you hold.

New entrants show up steadily in the FMCSA records: eight carriers registered in 2024 and another eight in 2025. If you started an authority recently and are selling the truck you began with, a lienholder may still be on the title, so have the lender’s name and payoff contact on hand.

One large operation and many small ones

The three biggest Gretna fleets on the FMCSA census run 1,116, 24 and 5 power units, with 1,065, 12 and 6 drivers respectively. Most sellers we hear from here are at the small end of that range, an owner-operator or a shop with a handful of tractors.

Selling several units from one yard is a single conversation: send a list of VINs with the year, make and model of each, and say which ones share a lot. Among the 13 carriers that reported mileage to the federal census, the median was 55,444 miles per truck a year, so an odometer photo for each unit helps us match paperwork to tractor.

A fleet that is closing out should keep each truck’s title, registration and any maintenance log in one folder per unit.

Build years on Gretna rigs pulled for inspection

Some 689 Gretna-carrier trucks were stopped for checks between September 2024 and August 2026, according to FMCSA roadside inspection records. Half of those rigs were built in 2015 or earlier, the inspection records show, and 51.7 percent had reached ten model years or more on the day they were checked.

Whatever the model year, the photos we ask for are the same: all four sides, the cab interior, the dash with the odometer showing, the VIN plate and the tires. A copy of the most recent annual inspection report, if one is in the glovebox, rounds out the file.

Construction, wholesale and the bridges trucks cross

Construction accounts for 562 of the 10,788 jobs located in Gretna, per the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, with wholesale trade at 312, manufacturing at 296 and transportation and warehousing at 199. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 32 construction establishments, which is where dump trucks, roll-offs and equipment haulers tend to be kept.

Of 31 bridges the National Bridge Inventory lists for Gretna, two are load-posted and none sits under 14 feet. That matters when we plan collection of a heavy unit, so tell us the nearest cross street to the truck and whether it is loaded.

Jefferson Parish has 20 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle the top category. A livestock trailer or a farm truck from the parish is collected from the property where it is kept; give us directions past the gate if the address alone will not find it.

The questions we get asked in Gretna

  • My tractor stays near the IMTT and fuel racks west of Gretna - does it have to come off that lot first? The Energy Information Administration places both Gretna petroleum terminals within a mile of town, and we collect from wherever the truck sits. Pass along the terminal-side lot address plus whoever opens its gate.
  • The title for my Jefferson Parish truck has gone missing - who reissues it?Gretna owners request a duplicate from Louisiana’s state title agency, the office that issued the original title. Tell us at the start if the title is missing so we can plan the sale around the replacement.
  • I run one tractor under my own authority out of Gretna - will you still buy it?FMCSA’s carrier census shows Gretna’s third-largest fleet runs just five power units, and single-truck owners make up much of the rest. One tractor with its title and registration is a complete sale.
  • Can you collect a truck that hauls containers to the Napoleon Avenue yard? The North American Rail Network lists the Napoleon Ave ICTF 3.3 miles west of Gretna, and a drayage tractor working there can be collected from the yard or your lot. Give us the location and the gate contact.
