Freight, timber and car hauling out of Hammond
Of the 154 Hammond carriers still active on FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight is what 98 put down as their cargo. If your tractor has pulled dry vans or flatbeds for one of those outfits, send the VIN, the title and a set of photos showing the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel.
Logs, poles, beams and lumber appear on 22 Hammond carrier registrations in FMCSA’s census, the same count that declares machinery and large objects. Log trucks with bunks and lowboy tractors that moved equipment around the parish both fit what we collect; tell us what body or trailer setup goes with the truck so we know what is coming.
A further 20 local carriers haul motor vehicles, according to the same FMCSA census. Car haulers carry ramps, decks and hydraulics that photos of the cab alone do not show, so photograph the headrack and the upper deck as well.
Small outfits, one big fleet and private haulers
Among Hammond carriers, the biggest fleet on FMCSA’s census runs 172 power units with 72 drivers, while the next two run 18 and 14 power units. Most sellers here are owner-operators or small fleets, and one truck or a handful are handled the same way: one contact, one title per truck, one pickup plan.
Of the town’s registrations, 56 are private fleets hauling their own goods, per FMCSA’s census, alongside 74 interstate and 80 intrastate operations. A private-fleet truck is usually titled to the business, so have the person authorised to sign for the company ready when you contact us.
New registrations in FMCSA’s census show 19 Hammond carriers added in 2025 and 10 in 2024. If you started up recently and are now selling a truck that is still financed, give us the lienholder’s name early so the payoff and the title release can be lined up.
Short hauls and long routes from Tangipahoa
Driver records filed with FMCSA put 199 Hammond drivers within a 100-mile radius and 212 beyond it. A truck that runs long routes may be parked out of state when you decide to sell; tell us where it sits, and we arrange collection at that address rather than asking you to bring it home.
For the 37 local carriers that report mileage, FMCSA’s census gives a median of 27,000 miles a truck. Note the odometer reading when you send photos, alongside the VIN, so the details we work from match the truck on the day we arrive.
Hammond model years at the scale house and roadside
Inspectors stopped 106 Hammond-based trucks from late August 2024 to late August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put the middle model year of that group at 2018. Older and newer tractors are both on our list, so include the model year with the VIN when you get in touch.
Just over a third of that Hammond group, 35.85 percent on those roadside inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back. Whatever the year, keep the registration current and any inspection reports or service records together with the title, so they travel with the truck.
Gravel north-west of town, farms across the parish
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists two sand and gravel operations, Candiotto and Barriere West, each 7.5 miles north-west of Hammond. Dump trucks and tractors pulling end-dumps that have worked those pits can be collected from the yard where they park; give us a contact who can open the gate.
Tangipahoa Parish has 816 farms, led by milk, then cattle, then corn, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and grain trucks kept on a farm outside town are collected on the property, so send directions to the barn or shed where the truck stands.
Construction accounts for 102 establishments in the parish on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, and the LEHD job counts for 2023 show 638 construction jobs in Hammond. Contractors selling a dump truck, a flatbed or a service body can list several units in one request.
Jobs, warehouses and the airport
Wholesale trade holds 1,202 of Hammond’s 23,363 jobs in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, with 637 in manufacturing and 461 in transportation and warehousing. Box trucks and day cabs that run deliveries for those employers are part of what we purchase; registration and title in the business name are what we need.
Three warehousing establishments operate in the parish according to County Business Patterns. NG Hammond Airport, a military installation listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, lies 2.9 miles east of town, a useful landmark if your truck is parked on that side of Hammond.
Louisiana titles before the Hammond pickup
A lost Louisiana title is replaced through the state’s title agency, and the replacement has to be in hand before the sale on a Hammond truck can close. Start that request early if the title is missing, and tell us when you do.
A title still in a previous owner’s name, or one carrying a satisfied lien, also needs sorting before pickup. Send a photo of the front and back of the title so we can see who signs and whether a lien release is needed.
