The Lafayette rail yard and the roads toward it
Ossun’s nearest rail yard, LAFAYETTE, lies 4.6 miles south-east on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. A tractor that has shuttled freight to and from that yard is one we would like to hear about; send the VIN, the odometer reading and a few photos of the cab and frame.
If your truck is parked near the yard rather than at home in Ossun, leave it there. Give us the street address, the name of whoever controls the lot and a phone number for someone who can open the gate, and we plan the collection around that spot.
Anse la Butte and Opelousas terminals
East of Ossun, 9.8 miles out, the Energy Information Administration lists ANSE LA BUTTE TERMINAL LA as a petroleum product terminal. The Energy Information Administration also names OPELOUSAS, a second terminal 20.4 miles north. Tankers and the tractors that pull them in and out of sites like these are part of what we purchase.
Tell us which of the two terminals your tractor loaded at and keep any site paperwork you still hold, such as inspection reports or safety checks. That file shows where the truck has worked. If you have none of it, say what the truck hauled and we will ask the rest.
Dump trucks from the Verot and B & D sand pits
Two sand and gravel operations on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list sit within a short drive: LA 82 / Verot Pit, 16.1 miles south, and B & D SAND PIT, 17.1 miles east. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors are the usual equipment around pits of that kind.
A dump truck still sitting at a pit can be collected from the pit itself. Let the operator know a pickup is coming, send us photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab, and confirm whose name is on the title before the day is set.
Herds and foliage
Grain, livestock and nursery haulers around Ossun
Around Ossun, Lafayette Parish counts 502 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, soybeans and foliage plants listed as its top products. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and the flatbeds that move nursery stock all come out of that mix.
A farm truck often sits in a barn or at a field edge off a gravel lane. Give us the location, tell us if the gate is locked or the ground is soft after rain, and have the registration and title ready to hand over at collection.
Home-based rigs
A small employment base on the edge of Lafayette
For 2023, Ossun held 219 jobs according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES). Many of the trucks kept here belong to owner-operators and small outfits who park at home between loads.
A truck parked in a driveway or a yard behind the house is simple for us to reach. Tell us where on the property it stands and whether anything blocks the way out, and we arrange the rest with you by phone.
Just up the Thruway
Replacing an Ossun title at the Lafayette OMV
Titles in this state are issued by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, and its nearest location to Ossun is the OMV Lafayette Office at 3241 NW Evangeline Thruway, Suite A, Lafayette, 70507, about 4.9 miles from town. If the title has gone missing, that office is where a replacement starts.
Bring the VIN, your identification and any registration papers you still have when you visit. Once the duplicate is in your hands, send us a photo of the front of it along with the truck’s photos.
