General freight, lowboys and moving vans
Of the 75 active motor carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Ponchatoula, general freight shows up on 57 registrations. If your tractor or straight truck pulled mixed freight for one of those outfits, a clean title in your name and a set of photos covering the cab, frame and tires is enough for us to start.
Sixteen local carriers list machinery and large objects on their FMCSA registrations, while seven name household goods and another seven motor vehicles. Lowboys, rollbacks and moving vans all fit here; when you contact us, tell us what body or trailer the truck works with so the collection is planned for its length and weight.
Of those 75 operators, 42 are registered for interstate work and 33 stay inside Louisiana, according to the federal carrier census, and 28 run private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck owned by a business rather than a person needs a signature from someone authorised to sell it, so have that name ready.
Fleet counts
One truck or nineteen: Ponchatoula fleets
The three biggest fleets based in Ponchatoula run 19, 11 and 10 power units, per FMCSA registrations, with 25, 11 and 10 drivers respectively. Most sellers here are therefore selling one truck or a handful, and we buy a single unit just as readily as several.
Registered carriers here report 187 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 80 going farther, a split FMCSA records on each registration. If your truck is out on a long run when you decide to sell, tell us where it will be parked when it comes home and we will arrange to meet it there.
Across the 19 Ponchatoula carriers that filed mileage with FMCSA, the median works out to 33,333 miles per truck annually. Write down the odometer reading along with the VIN before you call; those two figures answer most of what we ask first.
Between October 2024 and August 2026, inspectors checked 68 trucks tied to Ponchatoula carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records put their median model year at 2021. Bring the inspection reports you were handed at those stops; they sit well alongside the registration and service history in the file we keep for your truck.
Just over a fifth of those inspected units, 20.6 percent in the same roadside inspection records, were ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on your truck’s title, the paperwork is the same: title, current registration and any service records you have kept.
Gravel pits, construction and plant work
Candiotto and Barriere West, two sand and gravel operations listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, both lie about 12 miles north of town. A dump truck or tractor that hauls aggregate out of those pits can be collected at the pit gate or a yard in Ponchatoula, so give us the exact spot and the name of whoever controls access.
Construction accounts for 170 jobs located in Ponchatoula, or 4.9 percent of the 3,484 counted in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and County Business Patterns lists 49 construction establishments. Contractors selling a dump body, flatbed or service truck can send photos of the body and equipment along with the chassis.
Manufacturing holds 570 of those 2023 jobs, 16.4 percent, with wholesale trade adding 190, according to the same LEHD figures. Box trucks and tractors that shuttle between plants and warehouses are on the list of what we purchase; if the truck carries a liftgate or reefer unit, mention it up front.
Milk trucks, cattle haulers and corn
Milk tops the product list for Tangipahoa Parish’s 816 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, ahead of cattle and corn. If you run a milk hauler, livestock rig or grain truck on one of those farms, we collect it at the farm gate.
Farm trucks are sometimes titled to the farm or to a family member rather than the driver. Check whose name is on the Louisiana title before you call, and if it differs from yours, have that person ready to sign.
Collection
Where we pick up around Ponchatoula
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists NG Hammond Airport, a military installation, 6 miles north of Ponchatoula. Trucks parked in yards along that stretch toward Hammond, or out by the gravel operations farther north, are collected where they stand.
For a pickup, we need the street address or yard name, a contact who can open the gate, and whether a tow truck can reach the unit. Keys, title and registration should be with the truck or with you when we arrive.
The questions we get asked in Ponchatoula
- Will you collect a dump truck sitting at the Candiotto or Barriere West pit?Candiotto and Barriere West, the sand and gravel operations the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 12 miles north of town, are within reach, and we collect from the pit or yard where the truck sits. Tell us which of the two pits it is in and who can let a tow truck through.
- Can a Ponchatoula fleet of ten or eleven units sell everything at once? The biggest fleets registered in Ponchatoula with FMCSA run 19, 11 and 10 power units, and we buy from fleets that size as well as from owners with one truck. List each VIN and odometer reading when you contact us.
- Who signs when a Tangipahoa dairy owns the truck rather than the driver?USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 816 farms in Tangipahoa Parish, and a truck titled to any of them can be sold as long as someone authorised to sign for the farm signs the title.
