Tankers on the east bank
Terminals within eight miles of Poydras
Three and a half miles west of Poydras, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Stolt-Nielsen liquid bulk terminal, and the Energy Information Administration lists the NEW ORLEANS petroleum product terminal just beyond it at 3.8 miles. A tractor that has hauled tankers between those gates is likely parked on a lot along that short run when we come for it, so send the street address and a note on how a carrier gets in.
North-west toward Chalmette, the PBF Chalmette Refinery shows up at 7.3 miles as a liquid bulk terminal on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list, and the MERAUX petroleum product terminal sits at 5.9 miles on the Energy Information Administration’s. If your truck carried site passes, gate logs or inspection slips from either plant, keep them in the cab; they tell us where the unit worked without a long phone call.
Sidings and air station
Rail sidings up the road from Poydras, plus two bases
The CHALMETTE rail yard lies 9.1 miles north-west of town and GOULDSBORO 11.2 miles out in that same direction, both recorded in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle loads to a rail siding often end up stored near the yard rather than at home; tell us which one, and we will route the pickup there.
Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans sits 8.2 miles west, and NG Jackson Bks is ten miles north-west, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A truck kept on or near a base may need an escort or a pass to reach, so mention that up front and we can plan around the gate.
Owner-operators and four private fleets in Poydras
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 11 active motor carriers based in Poydras: five run interstate, six stay inside Louisiana, and four are private fleets moving their own goods. Small operators like these usually sell one truck at a time, and we buy single tractors and straight trucks just as readily as a group.
Fleet sizes in that federal census are modest: one outfit runs five power units with four drivers, another two units with two drivers, and a third a single truck with one driver. An owner-operator selling the one truck should have the title in their own name, the current registration and the USDOT number to hand.
Reefer, meat, timber
Reefers, lumber and general freight
General freight is registered by five Poydras carriers in FMCSA’s census, while refrigerated food, meat, and logs, poles, beams and lumber each appear on four. With a reefer unit, send its trailer details and any temperature-unit service records you kept along with the tractor photos.
Log and lumber haulers registered here may run a flatbed or a log trailer behind the tractor; list what is coupled to it, the axle setup and the VIN of each piece, and photograph the deck alongside the cab so the sale covers exactly what you mean to sell.
Sites and pasture
Builders and the parish’s fifty farms
Five construction outfits show up around Poydras in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from site work belong on the list of what we collect; note the body type and the box or bed length when you send pictures.
Cattle, honey and rabbits lead the 50 farms that USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts in the parish around Poydras. A stock trailer, a farm truck or a small straight truck kept on parish land can be collected where it sits; send a pin drop if the place has no street number.
Replacing a lost title east of New Orleans
A Poydras owner missing a title can drive 5.8 miles to Meraux, where the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles keeps the OMV Chalmette Office at 3870 E Judge Perez Drive, Meraux, 70075. Bring photo ID and the VIN there to apply for a duplicate before the sale, or tell us the title is missing and we will say which forms to carry.
Where a lender still holds a lien on the truck, ask that lender for a release letter and keep a copy with the title for the day of collection.
