Log trucks and freight haulers around Ruston
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 79 active motor carriers based in Ruston, and 30 of them list logs, poles, beams or lumber among the cargo they carry. If your truck is a log truck or a tractor that pulled pole trailers out of Lincoln Parish timber, tell us the trailer setup it ran with and whether that trailer is part of the sale.
General freight is the commonest cargo line, at 46 Ruston carriers on the same federal census, with 16 hauling machinery or large objects and 12 moving farm supplies. A lowboy tractor that carried equipment needs different photos from a dry-van tractor, so send the fifth wheel, the frame rails and the axle tags along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Of those carriers, the FMCSA register counts 41 authorised for interstate work, 38 running only inside Louisiana and 34 private fleets hauling their own goods. If the truck carried a business’s own product rather than for hire, say which business holds the title so the seller’s signature matches the name on it.
From one-truck owners to fleets of fifty
The three biggest fleets registered in Ruston run 56, 30 and 18 power units, according to FMCSA’s carrier census, with 33, 17 and 17 drivers respectively. A fleet manager parting with several tractors at once can send one list of VINs, unit numbers and yard addresses, and we work through the pickups from that list.
Most Ruston carriers are far smaller than that. Among 25 local carriers reporting mileage to the federal census, the median truck covered 29,279 miles a year. An owner-operator with a single tractor needs only the title in hand, the registration card and a current odometer photo to start.
New authorities keep appearing here: FMCSA records 8 carriers registering in Ruston during 2025 and 4 in 2024. If your authority is recent and the truck is financed, name the lender when you first contact us and keep the lien release with the title.
Model years on Ruston trucks pulled over for inspection
Inspectors checked 106 Ruston-based trucks between September 2024 and August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give a median model year of 2018 for them. Have the model year, engine make and transmission type written down before you contact us; those three answers settle most of our first questions.
On the same roadside inspection records, 41.5 percent of those trucks were ten or more model years old. Whatever the year of yours, keep the last inspection report and any service invoices together in the cab so they leave with the truck.
Fuel terminals west, a rail yard south
Two petroleum product terminals sit just west of town, Arcadia at 15.3 miles and the Arcadia Terminal at 15.5 miles, as listed by the Energy Information Administration. A tractor parked at a terminal lot out there can stay put; send the gate contact’s name and number and we arrange collection with them.
South of Ruston, the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Advance rail yard 18.5 miles out. If your truck shuttled loads to or from that yard and sits near it now, give us the nearest road and a pin drop rather than driving it back into town.
Contractors, plants and distributors that keep Ruston trucks busy
Of the 14,611 Ruston jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts recorded for 2023, 568 were in construction, 544 in manufacturing, 385 in wholesale trade and 157 in transportation and warehousing. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks that served those employers are all trucks we buy, so tell us the body type and its length when you get in touch.
A dump truck or roll-off from one of the 69 Ruston construction firms in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns may be parked at a contractor’s yard; tell us whose yard it is and when the gate is open.
Cattle and deer farms across the parish
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 325 farms in Lincoln Parish, with cattle, deer and horses as the leading lines. A livestock hauler, feed truck or farm-plated straight truck kept out on one of those properties can be collected from the farm itself.
Farm trucks are sometimes titled to a family member or the farm’s business name rather than the driver. Check whose name the Louisiana title carries before we schedule the pickup, and have that person ready to sign.
The questions we get asked in Ruston
- The log truck is still sitting at a timber tract outside Ruston, so is pickup possible off that tract?Thirty Ruston carriers haul logs, poles, beams or lumber on FMCSA’s carrier census, so trucks parked at timber sites are familiar ground. Send a pin drop and describe the road in, and we plan the collection around it.
- The tractor sits at a terminal lot near Arcadia, so must I haul it back to Ruston beforehand? The Energy Information Administration lists the Arcadia terminals about 15 miles west of Ruston, and the truck can be collected right where it stands. Give us the lot’s gate contact so the visit is arranged with them.
- Our Ruston outfit has a handful of tractors to let go, so can every unit be sold under one deal?Ruston fleets on FMCSA’s carrier census range up to 56 power units, and a multi-truck sale works from one list. Send each VIN, unit number and parking address, along with the titles for every unit.
