Pits north and south-west of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists B & D Sand Pit 5.9 miles north of St. Martinville, a sand and gravel operation close enough that a dump truck working it may sit in a yard right off the parish road. If yours is parked there, send the pit gate’s address and the name of whoever holds the key, and we arrange the collection around that.
Legacy Aggregates LLC, a sand and gravel operation 8.1 miles south-west on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, is the second pit near town. Tri-axle dumps and end-dump trailers that load at either site should be photographed on level ground with the bed down, alongside the VIN plate and the cab, so the pictures answer our first questions.
Tractors serving the yards and the petroleum terminal
Two rail yards bracket the town on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: New Iberia 9.9 miles south and Lafayette 15.2 miles north-west. A day cab that shuttles freight to either yard can stay where it is parked; give us the street address and we come to the truck.
Anse La Butte Terminal, a petroleum product terminal 11.6 miles north-west according to the Energy Information Administration, is the fuel stop on this list. If your tractor pulled tank trailers in and out of it, keep the registration and any service records together in the cab so they leave with the truck on collection day.
Weeks Island and the New Iberia Plant
South of town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the New Iberia Plant, a mineral processing plant, 12.5 miles south, and Weeks Island Mine and Mill, an industrial-mineral mine, 22.2 miles south. Trucks hauling from either one are often left inside a fenced site, so tell us who can open it before we schedule anything.
For a truck that has worked mine or plant property, any site inspection sheets or haul logs you kept are useful to send with the photos. None of that is required to sell; a VIN, a title in your name and a description of the work are enough to start.
Jobs in town: plants and building sites
Manufacturing accounts for 284 of the 1,656 jobs located in town, or 17.1 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023. Box trucks, flatbeds and tractors that move goods for those employers are part of what we purchase, whether they belong to an owner-operator or a small shop.
The same LEHD figures put construction at 76 jobs, a 4.6 percent share of the town’s 2023 total. Contractors with a stake bed, a dump or a crew truck sitting idle between jobs can send us the VIN and a few photos taken wherever it is parked, at the shop or on a job site.
Rice, horses and cattle across St. Martin Parish
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 378 farms across the parish, with rice, equine and cattle at the top of its list. Grain trucks for rice harvest, stock trailers’ tractors and horse-hauling rigs all fall within what we buy, and a farm truck parked in a barn lot can be collected from there.
A farm truck’s title is often filed away with other family papers, so find it before you call. If it is lost, ask the state for a duplicate, and we can talk you through what the sale needs while that request is under way.
The questions we get asked in St. Martinville
- My dump truck is at a sand pit outside St. Martinville; does it have to come into town first?B & D Sand Pit sits 5.9 miles north and Legacy Aggregates 8.1 miles south-west, on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings, and we collect from pits like these. Give us the gate address and a contact who can let us in.
- I own a rice-hauling grain truck and the title has gone missing; can I still sell it?St. Martin Parish has 378 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and a grain truck from one of them can still be sold while a duplicate title is on order from the state. Start that request, tell us, and we will cover the rest of the sale in the meantime.
- What should I send first for a tractor that hauls to the New Iberia or Lafayette yards? Those yards sit 9.9 and 15.2 miles from town on the North American Rail Network, and for a tractor working them we ask for the VIN, the odometer reading, and photos of the cab, frame, fifth wheel and tires.
