Tank terminals on every side of Sulphur
The Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal named SULPHUR 3.4 miles west of the city and a second, WESTLAKE LA, 5.3 miles east. A tractor that has shuttled tankers between those two gates is often still parked near one of them, so tell us which terminal it last loaded at and whether a gate pass is needed to reach it.
Savage Service Corp runs a liquid bulk terminal 3.3 miles north-east of town, and Phillips 66 has one 5.5 miles south, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tank trailer or the tractor that pulled it carries hazmat endorsements, cleaning certificates or terminal access cards, put copies in the folder with the title so the paperwork for those loads travels with the truck.
Maplewood, Mossville and the transload trucks
Two rail yards sit almost side by side on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: MAPLEWOOD, 3.4 miles east, and MOSSVILLE, 3.6 miles north-east. Day cabs that move freight between those yards and the plants around them rarely leave the parish, so the collection address is usually a yard or a plant lot a few minutes from the city.
When the truck sits inside a fenced rail or plant property, give us the name of the person who controls the gate and the hours it is open. Add the VIN, a current registration card and clear photos of the cab, frame and tires, and the pickup can be planned around the yard’s own rules.
Grinding plants south-east and north
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Lake Charles Grinding Plant, a mineral processing plant, 3.8 miles south-east of Sulphur. Further out, Asbury DeQuincy, another processing plant, sits 15.7 miles north on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list.
Dump trucks and pneumatic tankers that haul ground material from sites like these can be collected right where they are parked. If the truck has spent its years on a plant property, mention any site safety stickers or MSHA-related paperwork you hold, and send a photo of the body or tank along with the cab.
Coil haulers, oilfield carriers and private fleets
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 76 active motor carriers based in Sulphur, 41 of them hauling general freight, 19 moving machinery and large objects, 15 carrying metal sheets, coils and rolls, and 9 hauling oilfield equipment. Flatbeds and step-decks built for coils and heavy machinery are as much a part of this city’s fleet as box trailers, and we take both.
Of those carriers, the federal census records 40 running interstate, 36 intrastate and 35 operating as private fleets. A private fleet selling a unit should have the title in the company’s name and someone authorised to sign it; an interstate tractor should come with its cab card and the most recent annual inspection report.
Twenty-five Sulphur carriers reported annual mileage to FMCSA, and the middle truck in that group logged 18,213 miles over the year. The three biggest local fleets on that census run 67, 40 and 32 power units, so a seller here may be one owner-operator or a fleet manager clearing several tractors at once; tell us how many units and where each is parked.
Keep the roadside inspection slips in the cab folder
Between September 2024 and August 2026, officers stopped 65 trucks belonging to Sulphur-based carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give that group a median model year of 2019, with just under a quarter, 24.6 percent, built ten or more years earlier. Whichever side of that line your truck falls on, the model year and the VIN are the first two things to send us.
Keep those same inspection reports in the cab file. If the truck was stopped at the roadside in that period, a copy of the report alongside the registration and title gives us a dated record of the unit, and it saves a round of questions.
Low clearances and posted bridges near town
Around Sulphur, 53 bridges appear in the National Bridge Inventory; 4 carry posted load limits and 2 leave under 14 feet overhead. The lowest, which carries LA 108 over I-10, has 13 ft 1 in of vertical clearance under it, according to the Federal Highway Administration’s bridge records.
If a tall trailer or a loaded lowboy parked near you would have to pass under that overpass to reach the interstate, tell us the street address and the route out. Our recovery vehicle and its path are chosen with those posted structures in mind.
Job sites, wholesale yards and rice country
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 8,846 jobs in Sulphur in 2023, with construction holding 761 of them, wholesale trade 394, manufacturing 296 and transportation and warehousing 190. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 76 construction establishments, and their dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies are part of what we collect in the parish.
Out on the farm roads, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 787 farms in Calcasieu Parish, with cattle, rice and horses leading the list. Livestock haulers, grain trucks and the tractors that pull rice to the dryers are welcome; send the title, the registration and a few photos, and we arrange to collect the truck at the farm.
