Gretna’s terminals, a few minutes up the road
Two Gretna petroleum product terminals appear in Energy Information Administration listings, one 2.3 miles north-west of Terrytown and the other 2.5 miles west. A tractor that has shuttled between those gates and West Bank stations is something we collect where it is parked, so give us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
IMTT - Gretna, 2.6 miles west, and New Orleans II, 3 miles west, are both liquid bulk terminals on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics register. If your day cab has pulled tankers to either dock, put the title, the current registration and any terminal access or inspection paperwork in one folder before you call us.
Rail yards on both banks near Terrytown
Gouldsboro yard lies 2.6 miles north-west of town on the North American Rail Network, which the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. If your drayage tractor works that yard, a photo of the cab, the frame and the plate tells us which unit we are coming for.
Across the river, Chalmette yard is mapped 3.9 miles north-east on the North American Rail Network. A truck kept on the east side of the Mississippi can be sold from Terrytown without bringing it over the bridge; send the street where it stands and the VIN.
Thirteen carriers, mostly small
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 13 active carriers based in Terrytown, and the biggest of them runs 6 power units with 2 drivers. Owners with one truck or a handful are the usual sellers here, and a single plated tractor with its title in your own name is all we need to start.
General freight is the cargo listed by 6 of those carriers in the FMCSA census, household goods by 4, driveaway and towaway work by 3, and motor vehicles by 2. Box trucks from moving outfits, car haulers and rollbacks all fit what we buy, so tell us the body type and the length when you write.
Of the 13, the census lists 4 as interstate operators, 9 as intrastate, and 3 as private fleets hauling their own goods. A Louisiana-only truck with intrastate plates needs nothing extra from you beyond the title and registration in the cab.
Construction and warehousing jobs
Construction holds 357 of the 4,586 jobs that the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts placed in Terrytown in 2023, a 7.8 percent share. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from site work are welcome, and a list of the attachments that go with the truck saves a second call.
Around Terrytown, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 39 construction establishments, from small contractors to site crews. If the truck belongs to one of those businesses rather than to you personally, have whoever signs for the company ready to sign the title.
Transportation and warehousing accounted for 267 local jobs, or 5.8 percent, in those 2023 LEHD figures, with wholesale trade at 61. Warehouse shuttle tractors and straight trucks from these employers can be collected at the dock where they are kept.
Titles, military bases and the parish line
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks two military installations to the north, West Bank at 3.2 miles and MARFORRES HQTRS at 3.3 miles. If you are posted there and leaving the area, the truck can stay put; we arrange collection with whoever you leave in charge of it.
A lost Louisiana title has to be replaced through the state’s title agency before a sale closes, so start that request early if the paper is missing. Keep the registration and any service records with the truck so they travel with it.
Cattle country in Jefferson Parish
Jefferson Parish still has 20 farms on the books of USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and cattle tops what they raise. A stock truck or farm-plated flatbed from one of those operations is something we take as well.
Farm plates still need a title in the seller’s name, so check whose name the paper carries before we schedule the pickup. Photos of the bed and the cab are enough for us to begin.
The questions we get asked in Terrytown
- My tractor is parked by the Gretna fuel terminals. Should it be relocated to my Terrytown address before pickup? The Gretna terminals sit 2.3 and 2.5 miles from Terrytown in Energy Information Administration listings, and we collect the truck right where it stands near them. Name the Gretna lot owner, and we will arrange the gate with them.
- I run a household goods truck. Would a West Bank moving truck qualify?Four of the 13 active carriers in Terrytown list household goods with FMCSA, and moving trucks like theirs are among what we purchase. A VIN, the box length and pictures of the moving box and cab get us started on a Terrytown mover’s truck.
- My truck is across the river near Chalmette. Can I still sell it from here?Chalmette yard is 3.9 miles north-east of Terrytown on the North American Rail Network, and a truck kept over there is collected on that side of the river. Give us the address and the name of someone who can hand over the keys.
