Fifty carriers on the Audrain County roads
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 50 active carriers based in Mexico, and 25 of them report general freight as a cargo they carry. If your tractor or straight truck is registered to one of those outfits, the Missouri title and the cab card are the two papers to find first; they tell us who can sign the sale.
In FMCSA’s census, machinery and large objects come next with 12 carriers, followed by farm supplies at 11 and grain, feed and hay at 9. A lowboy tractor that has moved equipment between Audrain County farmsteads, or a grain truck loaded at a county farm, is the kind of vehicle we collect here; photos of the bed, hoist or trailer hitch help us see how it was set up.
Of those 50 Mexico carriers, 20 run interstate and 30 stay within Missouri, according to the FMCSA census, and 28 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods. A farm or plant truck that never carried for hire still sells the same way: title in the owner’s name, keys, and a note of where it sits.
How old and how far: the Audrain County trucks
Checked at roadside stops from October 2024 through August 2026, the 72 Mexico-based trucks in FMCSA roadside inspection records have a middle model year of 2022. Those same inspection records show 13.9 percent of the group ten or more model years old. Whatever year yours is, send the VIN so the build sheet can be pulled up before we talk.
Fourteen local carriers report mileage to the FMCSA census, and the median among them works out to 15,492 miles per truck in a year. Read the odometer, photograph it, and include the number in your first message along with the engine make if you know it.
The same census counts 65 drivers at Mexico carriers who stay within 100 miles of base and 116 who go farther out. If your truck is out on a long run when you decide to sell, tell us the date it returns to Audrain County and we will set the collection for then.
Title work on North Abat Street
The Missouri Department of Revenue runs a license office at 201 North Abat in Mexico, about 1.3 miles from the center of town. If the title has gone missing, apply for a duplicate there before we arrange pickup, so the signed title is in hand on collection day.
When a lender still holds a lien, ask it for a release letter and bring that to the North Abat office along with the title. Registration, any service records and the cab card round out the folder; hand them over with the keys on collection day.
Quarries south
Stone and mineral sites toward Auxvasse
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Auxvasse South Quarry, a crushed-stone operation 11.6 miles south of Mexico, and Mid MO Mining, an industrial-mineral mine 14.9 miles south. Dump trucks and tri-axles that run aggregate out of pits like these are trucks we buy; if yours is parked at a quarry gate, give us the site contact so we can get in.
Whetstone, another crushed-stone quarry, sits 19.6 miles to the south-east per MSHA’s mine listings. A truck left there after the season ends can stay put; tell us which bay or lot it is in and the hours the yard is open.
Grain bins and hog barns outside Mexico
Audrain County holds 764 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where corn leads, soybeans follow and hogs rank third. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and feed trucks sitting in a machine shed out on a county road are all within reach; give us the farm’s road name and a gate code if there is one.
With 9 Mexico carriers hauling grain, feed and hay in FMCSA’s carrier census, plenty of farm trucks here are registered to a family operation. Check that the name printed on the title matches the person selling, and if a parent or partner is listed too, have them ready to sign.
Factory docks and contractor yards around town
Manufacturing accounts for 1,441 of Mexico’s 6,084 jobs in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD job counts, or 23.7 percent. Box trucks and tractors that shuttle parts and finished goods between those plants can be collected straight from the loading dock if the plant allows it; ask the shipping office before we arrive.
Wholesale trade holds 347 local jobs and transportation and warehousing 276, by the LEHD figures, while construction holds 211. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 38 construction establishments, so a dump truck or flatbed parked at a contractor’s yard is a likely pickup; list the attachments that stay with it.
Of the 19 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records around Mexico, 2 carry posted load limits and none has a clearance under 14 feet. Tell us the route into wherever the truck is parked, and mention a posted bridge on it, so the right tow rig is sent.
The questions we get asked in Mexico
- Our tri-axle sits at the Auxvasse South pit; can you load it out from the quarry itself?Auxvasse South Quarry is 11.6 miles south of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from sites like it. It can stay at the pit; name the quarry foreman or whoever keeps the gate key.
- The title for our grain truck is gone; is there a license office on the north side of Mexico that issues a duplicate? The Missouri Department of Revenue license office at 201 North Abat, about 1.3 miles from downtown, handles duplicate titles. Apply there before pickup and bring any lien release with you.
- Do you buy grain and farm trucks from Audrain County farms?Audrain County’s 764 farms, counted in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, grow mostly corn and soybeans and raise hogs, and their grain and livestock trucks are ones we buy. A first message with the VIN, the mileage and pictures of the bed or trailer gets things started.
- Is my 2022 tractor typical for a Mexico carrier?FMCSA roadside inspection records give 2022 as the median model year across 72 trucks from Mexico carriers inspected from October 2024 to August 2026. Newer and older trucks alike are welcome; the VIN tells us the rest.
