Gravel south of town, Quikrete to the west
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists two sand and gravel operations south of Sunset Hills: the Hageman Plant at 4.2 miles and Shead at 4.7 miles. If your dump truck or tractor has been hauling out of either one, tell us which pit it worked and where it is parked tonight, whether that is a driveway in town or a lot near the plant.
About 4 miles west sits Quikrete Companys Inc., a mineral processing plant the Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists. Trucks tied to bagged and bulk material out of a plant like that often stay on its yard between loads; if yours is there, give us a gate contact and the yard address so collection can be arranged with the site.
Fuel tankers loading west of town and out east toward Lemay
Burlington Junction, a liquid bulk terminal the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 2.4 miles west, is the nearest freight site to town. A tank-pulling tractor that has served it should come with its registration and whatever inspection records you kept, since those answer most of our first questions.
Farther out, the Energy Information Administration lists the LEMAY petroleum product terminal 7.4 miles east, toward the river. If your truck is parked closer to Lemay than to Sunset Hills, that is fine; send the address and a few photos of the cab, frame and tires, and we come to it there.
Day cabs on the DAIMLER, IVORY and Lindenwood rails
On the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the DAIMLER rail yard lies 3.4 miles west and the IVORY yard 7.7 miles east. If your day cab has shuttled between them, have the odometer reading and VIN ready when you reach out.
The Lindenwood intermodal ramp in Saint Louis, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts 7.1 miles northeast, handles containers. A tractor that has pulled chassis off that ramp can be sold from wherever it sits in the county; just tell us whether the chassis stays with you or goes with the truck.
General freight, lumber and machinery haulers based here
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 28 active carriers based in Sunset Hills: 19 interstate, 9 intrastate, and 14 private fleets hauling their own goods. In that FMCSA census, 14 carriers list general freight, 6 haul machinery and large objects, and 3 each carry dry bulk commodities or logs, poles, beams and lumber.
FMCSA’s carrier census shows the three biggest local fleets at 32, 29 and 29 power units, with one of the 29-unit outfits listing 120 drivers. Whether you own one tractor or are thinning a yard of several, list each unit’s VIN, make and model year in one message and we will go through them together.
According to the carrier census, 134 drivers here work within 100 miles and 169 go beyond it, and the 9 carriers that report mileage show a median of 33,103 miles per truck. Note your truck’s current reading before you contact us.
How new the inspected local tractors and straight trucks are
Across 51 trucks that local carriers sent past inspectors from late September 2024 through late August 2026, the middle model year in FMCSA roadside inspection records lands on 2022. Of those inspected trucks, 27.45 percent were ten or more model years old, by the same FMCSA records.
Whichever side of that line your truck falls on, we buy it. Pull together the title, the current registration and any service records, and take photos of each side, the dash and the engine bay before you get in touch.
Titles, jobs and the roads in between
A missing Missouri title is handled by the Missouri Department of Revenue, whose South County office sits at 111 Concord Plaza Shopping Ctr in Saint Louis, about 2.6 miles from town. Apply for the duplicate there before the sale so the truck can change hands without a wait on paper.
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 11,163 jobs in Sunset Hills, including 540 in construction, 385 in transportation and warehousing, 305 in wholesale trade and 207 in manufacturing. The Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns lists 35 construction establishments, so a contractor’s dump truck or flatbed fits right in with what we collect here.
The National Bridge Inventory records 8 bridges in town, 2 of them load-posted and none under 14 feet. Tell us the route out from where the truck is parked so our driver plans around those two posted spans.
