Hamlet carriers
Forty carriers, nearly all staying in New York
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 40 active carriers based in Albertson, and 38 of them operate intrastate only, with just 2 crossing state lines. If your truck has spent its working life inside New York, its registration and inspection history will all be with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, so gather those papers before you call.
FMCSA’s carrier census also shows 31 of the 40 are private operations hauling their own goods. A contractor’s dump truck or a supplier’s box truck is just the kind of vehicle we collect, so tell us what the business used it for and where it sits between jobs.
Drivers here keep close to home: the FMCSA census counts 60 drivers working within 100 miles and 14 going beyond that radius. Your truck is most likely parked at a yard or driveway within Nassau County, which makes it easy for us to reach once you send the address.
Freight boxes, packers and bucket trucks
General freight leads the cargo listings at 12 carriers in the FMCSA census, followed by garbage and refuse at 5, utility at 4 and large machinery at 3. Whether yours is a straight truck, a roll-off, a bucket truck or a lowboy tractor, send photos of the body and any equipment mounted on it along with the cab.
Refuse and utility rigs carry packers, booms and hydraulics, and the paperwork for those matters as much as the chassis. If you kept service logs for the body equipment, put them with the title.
The three biggest fleets in town are small ones, per FMCSA records: 7 power units with 4 drivers, 5 power units with 1 driver, and 4 power units with 4 drivers. If you are winding down a few units at once, list each VIN and where each truck is kept, and we can plan the collection as one job.
Jobs inside the hamlet
Construction and wholesale jobs around the hamlet
Of the 1,386 Albertson jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts recorded for 2023, 203 sit in construction, or 14.6 percent of the hamlet’s work. Contractors’ trucks, from dump bodies to flatbeds, are welcome here; have the registration in the company’s name ready and someone who can sign for the business.
Wholesale trade accounts for 95 local jobs and manufacturing for 63 in the same LEHD figures, while County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 35 construction establishments. If a truck belongs to one of those firms, tell us who holds the title and who can sign for the company.
Fuel terminals, rail yards and a gravel pit
Four miles north, the Energy Information Administration lists the Glennwood Landing petroleum product terminal, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a liquid bulk terminal at that same distance. A tanker tractor that has loaded at those racks can be collected where it is parked; just give us a contact who can let us onto the lot.
Jamaica Yard sits 9.5 miles south-west on the North American Rail Network, with the Jamaica yard at 10.2 miles, and the Energy Information Administration lists the Oyster Bay terminal 9.5 miles north-east. A truck that has shuttled between those points may be parked off Long Island’s north shore or in Queens rather than in Albertson, and either spot works for a pickup.
East of town by 11.8 miles, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records a sand and gravel operation, Broad Hollow Estates. Dump trucks and tri-axles that haul aggregate from there are trucks we buy, and a note of the axle configuration and body length helps us identify yours.
Oak Street and the DEC
Titles, Garden City and the clean truck rules
A short 3.8-mile drive takes an Albertson owner to 400 Oak St in Garden City, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office closest to the hamlet. If the title is lost, apply for a duplicate there and let us know it has been requested.
Both state clean truck rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, show enforcement as paused on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s pages. Neither affects selling a diesel truck you already own; bring the title, registration and your photo ID.
