Gravel, stone and salt around Avon
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Avon Site, a sand and gravel operation, just 1.8 miles north-west of town, and Oak Openings, another gravel pit, 4.6 miles to the east. A dump truck or tri-axle that has worked those pits can stay parked where it is; send us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Further out, the Leroy Plant crushed-stone quarry lies 10.8 miles north-west, and the Hampton Corners Mine and Retsof Bagging industrial-mineral mine sits 12.2 miles south-west, both on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. If your truck hauled stone or bagged mineral from either site, have the VIN, the registration and a few photos of the body and chassis ready when you call.
Five miles south-east of Avon, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the Lakeville Yard; the same network places Rochester Brooks Ave yard 15.4 miles north. A tractor that shuttles loads to either yard can be collected from the yard lot or from your own driveway, whichever suits you.
Two petroleum product terminals, Rochester North at 15.7 miles and Rochester South at 15.8 miles north-east, appear in Energy Information Administration records. Owners of fuel tankers that load there should note the tank’s last inspection date and keep its test certificates with the title, so the paperwork travels with the truck.
Tell us the town or yard where your truck is parked, and we will arrange collection there.
Private fleets account for 90 of those carriers in the same federal census, meaning businesses that move their own goods rather than hauling for hire. If your truck belongs to a farm or a company fleet, tell us whose name is on the title and who can sign for it.
Fleet sizes here are modest: the three biggest operations on FMCSA’s census run 29, 25 and 15 power units. Selling one unit from a fleet like that only needs its title, registration and the keys; the rest of the fleet keeps working.
General freight leads the cargo list, with 55 Avon carriers declaring it to FMCSA’s carrier census, followed by farm supplies at 26, grain, feed and hay at 22, and machinery and large objects at 20. A grain hopper, a flatbed for equipment or a box truck for supplies are all trucks we will look at.
Livingston County holds 612 farms, with milk, corn and cattle as its top products, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. If your truck spends harvest season at a dairy or a corn operation, photograph it at the farm and tell us which lane or barn it sits beside so the driver finds it.
Whatever the year on yours, read the model year and VIN off the door jamb and include them in your first message.
Among 27 Avon carriers that report it to FMCSA’s carrier census, the median truck covers 15,000 miles a year. Send us the current odometer reading along with your photos.
The census also lists 181 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 147 driving beyond that radius. If your truck is out on a longer run, tell us where it will be parked when it is back, and we can plan the pickup from there.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office for Avon owners is the Geneseo office at 6 Court St, Room 204, Geneseo, 8.4 miles from town. If the title is lost or carries a lienholder’s name, that office is where a duplicate or a lien release gets handled.
Before collection, check that the name on the title matches the registration and that every owner listed is ready to sign. Any correction to the title can be made at the Geneseo office before the driver arrives.
Factory and wholesale jobs in town
Manufacturing supplies 480 of the 1,972 jobs located in Avon, 24.3 percent, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, while wholesale trade adds 238 and transportation and warehousing 64. A straight truck or tractor that delivers for a local plant or wholesaler can be sold by the business that owns it; have an authorised signer on hand.
Contractors with a dump truck, a stake body or an equipment hauler can send us its photos and VIN straight from the job site.
