Sixty-four carriers in a small Nassau hamlet
Of the 64 active motor carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Carle Place, 47 are private fleets hauling a company’s own goods. If your truck belongs to a business like that, the person who signs for the company should be the one listed on the title, so check that name before we schedule a pickup.
Only 4 of those 64 carriers are cleared for interstate work, while 60 operate intrastate, according to the same FMCSA census. A truck that never left New York usually carries a simple paper trail: the New York title, the current registration and the most recent state inspection sticker are the three items to gather first.
General freight leads the cargo list, with 23 Carle Place carriers declaring it in FMCSA registrations; 6 declare garbage and refuse, 5 refrigerated food and 5 meat. Packer bodies, reefer boxes and dry vans each have their own equipment to photograph, so shoot the body, the reefer unit or the liftgate along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Among the Carle Place fleets on FMCSA’s carrier census, one runs 21 power units with 21 drivers, another 11 with 11, and a third 7 with 7. A business with a handful of units can sell one truck or several at once; list each VIN and where each one is parked, and we plan the collections together.
FMCSA registration filings show 5 new carriers registered in Carle Place in 2025 and 1 in 2024. An owner who started up recently may still be paying on the truck, so if a lender holds the title, tell us the lender’s name at the start and we work the payoff through with them.
Island miles, not long hauls
Drivers working for Carle Place carriers stay close: FMCSA’s census records 100 drivers operating within 100 miles of base and 16 who go beyond it. For most sellers here, that puts the truck in a yard, a driveway or a job site somewhere on the Island when we come to collect it, so give us the street address and a gate contact.
For Carle Place, a median of 10,000 miles per truck a year comes from the 13 local carriers that reported mileage on FMCSA’s census. Write down the odometer reading and send a clear photo of the dash cluster along with it, since that one number answers a lot of our first questions.
North shore and Queens
Fuel terminals, gravel and the Jamaica yards
Glenwood Landing, a petroleum product terminal listed by the Energy Information Administration, sits 5.8 miles north-west of Carle Place, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a Global Companies liquid bulk terminal at the same distance. If your tanker loaded at Glenwood Landing, keep its tank test and hazmat paperwork with the title.
To the north-east, the Energy Information Administration lists the Oyster Bay petroleum terminal 9.7 miles out, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates, a sand and gravel operation, 9.9 miles east. Dump trucks that run aggregate from Broad Hollow can be collected from the pit lot or your yard; just tell us which.
West of town, the North American Rail Network shows Jamaica Yard 10.6 miles away and the Jamaica rail yard at 11.3 miles. Trucks that drayed to those Queens yards are welcome too, wherever they now sit.
Oak Street, Garden City, for a lost title
A Carle Place owner missing a title has a short trip: the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists its Garden City office on Oak St just 1.6 miles away. That is where a duplicate is requested, and you can start on it before you contact us so the sale is not held up.
Bring the registration, a photo ID and, for a company truck, proof that you can sign for the business when you visit Oak Street. Once the duplicate title is in hand, send us a photo of the front and the back.
Hamlet payrolls
Construction accounts for 279 of the 5,286 jobs in Carle Place in 2023, a 5.3 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns lists 28 construction establishments. Contractors here who are retiring a dump, a flatbed or a box truck can include the body specs and any attachments in the listing they send us.
Those 2023 LEHD job counts also put 200 jobs in manufacturing, 169 in wholesale trade and 112 in transportation and warehousing. A wholesale firm’s delivery truck can be collected straight from the loading dock if the dock manager knows we are coming.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 29 farms across Nassau County, with equine and cut flowers among the top products. Rigs that tow horse trailers and trucks that deliver nursery stock from those operations are on our list as well.
The questions we get asked in Carle Place
- My packer truck is parked at a yard off the Island; can it stay there?FMCSA’s census shows 16 Carle Place drivers already work beyond 100 miles of base, so trucks parked farther out are routine for us. Give us the yard address and a contact, and we collect it where it stands.
- Are the paused New York clean truck rules a problem for a Carle Place sale? For a Carle Place diesel, the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows both Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus with enforcement on hold. Sell it to us with its current title and registration as usual.
