Five miles to the quarry
Quarry and pit work below the lake
Johnstown Quarry, a crushed-stone operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, lies 5.7 miles south of Caroga Lake. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls aggregate from that face is likely to be parked near home or at the quarry gate, so tell us which one when you get in touch and we will collect it there.
Toward the south-east, the Maple Ave Pit is a sand and gravel site that the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 8.6 miles from town. For a truck that works both the quarry and the pit, send a few photos of the body, the cab and the VIN plate, and name the site where it will be parked on collection day.
From the St Johnsville Plant to the Amsterdam rail yard
Down toward the Mohawk, the St Johnsville Plant, listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as another crushed-stone quarry, sits 14.5 miles south-west of Caroga Lake. Owners who run stone from there and keep the truck in Caroga Lake can sell it from either end of that route; give us the address where it sits on the day.
Amsterdam has a rail yard that the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, puts 21.2 miles south-east of town. A tractor or straight truck that shuttles freight to that yard is welcome on the list; send the registration and the plate number along with your photos.
Milk tankers, cattle haulers and Christmas tree flatbeds
Across the county, 205 farms appear in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk, cattle and cut Christmas trees head its list of top products there. Milk haulers, livestock trucks and flatbeds that carry trees out each December all come from that mix, and we buy each of them.
A farm truck often sits in a barn lot or a field edge rather than a driveway. Let us know how to reach it, whether the lane is gravel or paved, and where the keys are kept, and the pickup can be planned around the farm’s own schedule.
Contractors’ trucks from a small base
Fulton County holds three construction establishments on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, a small trade base for a lake town of 448 people. A Caroga Lake contractor’s stake truck, small dump or tilt-deck is a truck we take as readily as a full tractor.
If your truck carries a plow, a dump body or a crane, say so and include it in the photos. Gather the service records for the body and the chassis as well, and keep them in the cab for the day of collection.
A missing title, sorted ten miles down the road
Caroga Lake owners who need a replacement title certificate can use the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 223 West Main St, Johnstown, which the DMV places 10.3 miles from the lake. If the title has gone missing, that office or the DMV’s replacement form is where to start, before the truck changes hands.
Should the truck still carry a lien, bring the lender’s release with the title. Keep the registration and the VIN together with it, so the paperwork and the truck match when we arrive.
Two paused engine regulations
New York has adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation, and the state lists its enforcement as paused. Caroga Lake owners do not need to settle anything under it before selling a truck to us.
The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation sits on the same footing, with enforcement also on hold according to the state. Any model year is welcome; just tell us the engine and the year on the plate.
The questions we get asked in Caroga Lake
- Can a tri-axle be picked up at the Johnstown Quarry gate?Johnstown Quarry is 5.7 miles south of Caroga Lake by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing, and we can collect a truck there or at your home. Tell us which address and where the keys will be.
- Which DMV office serves a Caroga Lake owner with a missing title?Johnstown’s New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office, 10.3 miles from Caroga Lake at 223 West Main St, takes title replacement requests. Start the request there before we pick up the truck.
- Is a Fulton County milk truck or cattle trailer rig something you collect?Milk and cattle lead the county’s products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk tankers and livestock trucks from those farms are on our list. Photos of the tank, the cab and the VIN plate are the first step.
- Does the paused clean truck rule affect my sale?New York lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation as paused, so there is nothing to file under it before a Caroga Lake owner sells.
