Pits south-west and west
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Chester Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, 1.6 miles south-west of town, and Goshen Quarry 4.3 miles to the west. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls stone between those two pits is often parked at the quarry gate rather than in a driveway, so tell us which site it sits at and who can let us in.
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records Slate Hill Sand & Gravel 9.7 miles west and an industrial-mineral mine 12.9 miles north. If your truck splits its week between these operations, send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab, plus the VIN, and we can work from where it stands that day.
Freight, refuse, lumber
Roll-offs, lowboys and log trucks from Chester yards
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 152 active carriers based in Chester; 60 of them haul general freight, 30 move machinery and large objects, 20 carry garbage and refuse, and 17 haul logs, poles, beams and lumber. A box truck, a lowboy tractor, a roll-off or a log truck from any of those lines is a truck we buy, and the registration card plus the title are the first two things to find.
Of those carriers, 111 operate intrastate only and 41 cross state lines, according to the same FMCSA census, and 118 run as private fleets hauling their own goods. A private-fleet truck often carries a company name on the door; keep the paperwork showing who holds the title so the sale goes to the right signer.
New registrations stayed steady, with FMCSA recording 9 new carriers in Chester in 2024 and 8 in 2025. If you started your own authority in one of those years and are now stepping back, have your USDOT number handy when you contact us so we can match the truck to the operation.
Across 177 trucks checked between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records show a median model year of 2019, with 24.3 percent of those trucks ten or more model years old. Whatever the year on yours, the title, the odometer reading and a set of clear photos are what we ask for first.
The 29 Chester carriers that report mileage to FMCSA’s census log a median of 9,841 miles per truck per year. Local work like that often means the truck stays close to home between jobs, so an address in town or at the yard is usually all we need to plan the collection.
The biggest operation in town, per FMCSA’s carrier census, fields 133 power units and 130 drivers, with the next two at 50 units and 20 units. Owners selling several trucks at once can send one list of VINs and locations rather than starting a separate conversation for each.
Wholesale jobs
Wholesale, warehousing and construction jobs
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 1,327 of Chester’s 2,877 jobs in wholesale trade, 46.1 percent of the total, alongside 248 in transportation and warehousing and 90 in manufacturing. Straight trucks and tractors serving those distribution jobs are welcome here; tell us whether yours pulled a dry van, a reefer or a flatbed.
Chester has 38 construction firms and just 3 warehousing firms on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally. A dump body, a mixer or a stake-bed from a building contractor fits what we collect, and service records, if you kept any, help us understand how the truck was used.
Dairies to Newburgh
Orange County farms, West Point and Newburgh
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 613 farms in Orange County, with milk, equine and potted flowering plants as the top products. A milk tanker, a livestock or horse hauler, or a nursery delivery truck parked on one of those farms can stay there; give us the farm address and a phone number for whoever is on site.
To the east, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places West Point Military Reservation 13.1 miles away and Stewart Annex 13.3 miles north-east. Global, a liquid bulk terminal, sits 15.9 miles north-east on the same agency’s list, and the Energy Information Administration lists CARGO Newburgh, a petroleum product terminal, at the same distance. If your tanker is parked at one of those Newburgh terminals, name the terminal and the gate contact when you reach out.
Goshen DMV
A Goshen title desk and unposted local bridges
A lost title in Chester is replaced through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 255 Main St in the Orange County Government Center, Goshen, 4.1 miles from town. Start that request before you sell, and keep the duplicate with the registration so both are ready on collection day.
The National Bridge Inventory lists 11 bridges in Chester, with none load-posted and none under 14 feet of clearance, so a tall box or a loaded tri-axle can reach most addresses in town for pickup. Mention any private lane or tight gate at your yard so the collection truck fits.
For an Orange County tractor, the state environmental agency’s own notices show the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules with enforcement on pause. A diesel tractor of any model year is still a truck we buy here, and you do not need emissions paperwork beyond what you already hold.
The questions we get asked in Chester
- Can you pick up a tri-axle sitting inside the Chester Plant stone quarry gate?Sitting 1.6 miles south-west of Chester by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s reckoning, that crushed-stone pit is a place our driver goes to. Give us the quarry foreman’s number and the hours the scale house is staffed.
- Does a milk tanker off an Orange County dairy farm qualify for a sale to you?Milk leads the 613 Orange County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and tankers serving those dairies are trucks we collect. Pass along the VIN, a few photos and directions to the milking barn.
- Do I need anything for New York’s clean-truck rules before selling? Both Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus sit at paused enforcement in the state environmental agency’s notices covering Orange County tractors. Have the title and registration ready; nothing more is asked of you on that front.
