Rail at the river
North Croton yard and Harmon Shops beside it
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the North Croton rail yard right on the village’s east side and Harmon Shops about 1.5 miles to the south-east. A box truck or flatbed that has made deliveries around either yard can stay where it is parked; we collect it from that spot.
When a truck is kept on a lot near Harmon Shops or North Croton that belongs to someone else, give us the lot owner’s name and a phone number for whoever holds the gate key. With that in hand, the pickup can be booked around their hours instead of yours.
Stone across the Hudson
Crushed stone south-west of the village
Across the water, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Haverstraw Quarry & Mill, a crushed-stone operation about 3.8 miles to the south-west, and the West Nyack Quarry roughly 7.7 miles out in the same direction. Dump trucks and tri-axles that carry aggregate out of sites like these are among the trucks we buy from Croton owners.
For a quarry truck, send photos of the body, the hoist and the tag axle alongside the cab, plus the VIN from the door jamb. If the truck is still parked on a quarry lot, tell us which one so we can arrange access with the site before we arrive.
A fuel terminal and two military posts
According to the Energy Information Administration, a petroleum product terminal operates at Cortland Manor, about 6.5 miles north-west of the village. Tank trucks and fuel-delivery straight trucks that load at a terminal like that are on our list too; keep any tank test certificates with the title so they travel with the sale.
Further up the same side of the river, NG Camp Smith Tng Site sits about 7.5 miles north-west and the West Point Military Reservation roughly 12.3 miles out, both listed as military installations by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck is kept near either, tell us whether a gate pass is needed for the person collecting it.
Who holds a carrier number here
Of the 98 active carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census places in Croton-on-Hudson, 79 are private fleets hauling for their own businesses. By the same census, 88 operate intrastate only and 10 cross state lines, while their drivers split into 158 who stay within 100 miles and 27 who go beyond.
General freight leads the cargo the census records here, with 27 carriers, followed by logs, poles, beams and lumber at 16, machinery and large objects at 14, and garbage, refuse and trash at 10. A log truck, a lowboy for equipment or a roll-off from one of those fleets is a truck we can make arrangements to buy, so tell us the body type when you first get in touch.
Fleets here run small: the three biggest in the FMCSA census hold 8, 6 and 6 power units. If you own one of a handful of trucks, list each VIN and where each one is parked, and we can plan a single visit to collect them.
Inspected at roadside
Model year and yearly mileage
FMCSA roadside inspection records from September 2024 to June 2026 cover 37 trucks tied to Croton carriers, with a median model year of 2013 and about 54 percent of them ten or more years old. Whatever the model year of yours, have the registration and any service records together before you contact us.
Fifteen Croton carriers report mileage to FMCSA, and their median sits at 6,000 miles a truck each year. Note the odometer reading when you send photos, and tell us the year, make and engine so the conversation starts with the facts of your truck.
The DMV across the river and Croton’s bridges
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office nearest the village is at 45 South Route 9W in West Haverstraw, about 4.4 miles away across the river. If the title for your truck is lost or still lists a lender, that is the office to visit for a duplicate or a lien release before the sale goes ahead.
In and around Croton-on-Hudson the National Bridge Inventory records 7 bridges, none of them load-posted and none under 14 feet of clearance. For the tow truck or lowboy sent to your truck, tell us the street address and whether the truck sits on pavement or gravel.
The questions we get asked in Croton-on-Hudson
- Stone from Haverstraw Quarry & Mill is what my tri-axle carries. Is it a truck you would take?Haverstraw Quarry & Mill, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists about 3.8 miles south-west of Croton-on-Hudson, is the kind of site dump trucks and tri-axles serve, and those trucks are on our list. Send the VIN, photos of the body and the location where it is parked.
- I run a small refuse or lumber fleet out of Croton. Would you collect all of the trucks together?Garbage hauling accounts for 10 of the 98 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census for Croton-on-Hudson, and lumber for 16, most with only a few power units. List every truck’s VIN and parking spot, and we plan the collection of all of them together.
