Twenty-one in-state carriers
Twenty-one carriers, all staying inside New York
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 21 active carriers based in East Farmingdale, and every one of the 21 is registered for intrastate work only, with 14 of them running private fleets that move their own goods. If your truck belongs to a business like that, the registration is likely in the company’s name, so have whoever signs for the business ready to sign the title too.
Of the 68 drivers those carriers report to FMCSA, 66 stay within 100 miles of their base and just 2 go further. A truck that works so tight a circle around its base is usually parked at its home yard most nights, which is where we would plan to collect it, so send us that yard’s street address with your first message.
Per the FMCSA carrier census, the three biggest local fleets register 9, 8 and 3 power units, each with one driver per unit. If you are selling one tractor or straight truck out of a small fleet like these, tell us the unit number you use for it alongside the VIN so nobody at your yard hands over the wrong vehicle.
Packers and moving vans
Garbage, beverages, furniture and general freight
General freight is the cargo most often declared here, by 5 carriers in FMCSA’s census, followed by household goods with 3, then beverages and garbage, refuse and trash with 2 apiece. That points to box trucks, moving vans, beverage bodies and refuse packers rather than long-haul sleepers, and we buy each of those body types.
For a moving van or beverage truck, photograph the body, the lift gate and the inside of the box as well as the cab. For a packer, take a shot of the hopper and the body plate so the make of the refuse body is readable; that plate tells us as much as the chassis VIN does.
Factories, wholesalers and builders nearby
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 27,963 jobs in and around East Farmingdale, with manufacturing at 4,542, wholesale trade at 3,498, construction at 3,040 and transportation and warehousing at 1,928. Delivery straight trucks and stake bodies that shuttle between those plants and warehouses are among what we take, so list the body length and whether it has a lift gate.
Across the East Farmingdale area, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tally 232 construction firms against just 5 warehousing firms. A contractor’s dump, rack or mixer often sits on a job site rather than at the office; if yours is parked at a site, tell us who controls the gate and the hours it is open.
Pit, racks and Jamaica
Gravel at Broad Hollow, terminals toward Oyster Bay
Just 1.9 miles north-west of East Farmingdale, Broad Hollow Estates Inc runs a sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. Dump trucks and tri-axles that load at a pit that close may well be sitting at the pit itself when you sell, and we can collect there once you tell us the gate contact.
About 11.3 miles north-west, the Energy Information Administration lists the OYSTER BAY petroleum product terminal, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Global liquid bulk terminal at the same distance, with GLENNWOOD LANDING and Global Companies 13.9 miles west. For a fuel tanker that loads at those racks, keep the tank’s test and inspection certificates with the title.
Further out, the North American Rail Network maps JAMAICA YARD 20.7 miles west and JAMAICA yard at 21.4 miles, while the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the port at Port Jefferson 22.8 miles north-east. A truck that works out of Queens or the North Shore can be collected where it stands; it does not need to come back to Suffolk County first.
Between September 5, 2024 and August 21, 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 819 trucks from this area, with a median model year of 2019 and 29.18% of them ten or more model years old. Whatever year yours is, the model year printed on the title and registration is the one we go by, so check it matches the VIN.
Enforcement of two state rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, is shown as paused on the New York Department of Environmental Conservation’s site. If you are selling a diesel unit from Suffolk County, have the engine family and emissions label photographed so the specification is on record.
Titles and farm trucks
Titles at the Massapequa DMV and farm trucks in Suffolk
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs its MASSAPEQUA office at 927 Carmans Rd, in the Carmans Plaza shopping center, 2.7 miles from East Farmingdale. A lost title is replaced through the state DMV, and that office is the nearest counter for owners here; start the duplicate before you list the truck.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 578 farms across Suffolk County, with potted flowering plants, horses and hogs leading the list. Nursery box trucks, horse haulers and stock trucks registered to a farm sell the same way as any other truck: the title, the farm’s registration and a contact for whoever signs for the farm.
