A rail yard and two fuel racks north of town
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Brookhaven Rail Terminal yard 4.4 miles north-east of East Patchogue, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics also lists that site as a liquid bulk terminal. If your tractor or tanker has shuttled loads off that rail siding, tell us which trailers it pulled and whether it is parked at the terminal or at home, so the pickup crew knows which gate to use.
Some 5.3 miles north-west, the North Holtsville Terminal is a petroleum product terminal on the Energy Information Administration’s list, and a second one at East Setauket sits 11.7 miles out in the same direction. A fuel truck that has loaded at either rack can be collected from the yard where it sits; have the registration and any hazmat or tank test paperwork together before we arrive.
Pits north of town toward Coram
Mine Safety and Health Administration records show Roanoke Sand & Gravel Corporation 8.7 miles north and Coram Materials Corp 10.6 miles north of East Patchogue. Dump trucks and tri-axles that run aggregate out of those pits are trucks we purchase; photograph the body, the tailgate and the chassis plate so the description and the pictures line up.
Construction accounts for 318 local jobs, or 5.1 percent of the 6,246 counted in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 215 construction establishments. If a contractor’s dump, mixer or flatbed is finished with its work here, write down the VIN and where the truck is parked, and the pickup gets planned around that spot.
East Patchogue carriers, mostly in-state
There are 233 active carriers registered here according to FMCSA’s carrier census, and 222 of them operate intrastate against only 10 that cross state lines. With so much of that work staying inside New York, the truck you sell is likely parked in Suffolk County when we come for it.
Of those carriers, 175 are private fleets, the trucks a business owns to move its own goods, again on FMCSA’s census. A landscaper, builder or supplier selling a company truck should have the title in the business’s name ready, along with someone who can sign for the company.
General freight is the leading cargo, carried by 91 carriers, with machinery and large objects at 30, logs, poles, beams and lumber at 26, and utility work at 25, as listed in FMCSA’s carrier census. Bucket trucks, lowboys, lumber haulers and box trucks all fit that mix; tell us which body the truck carries when you first get in touch.
Local miles and small fleets
Among 37 carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA’s carrier census, the median is 8,000 miles a truck per year. The census also counts 324 drivers working within 100 miles and 118 beyond that radius. For a seller, that usually means the truck is close to home; give us the street address and say whether a rollback can reach it.
The biggest fleets here are modest: FMCSA’s census lists one with 26 power units and 26 drivers, one with 25 power units and 17 drivers, and one with 12 power units and 9 drivers. Whether you are selling one truck or several from a yard of that size, send a list of VINs and we will work through them together.
New registrations continue at a steady pace, with FMCSA’s carrier census showing 13 carriers added in 2025 and 12 in 2024. A newer operator replacing a first truck can sell the old one here; bring the title and the current registration.
Roadside checks of Suffolk tractors from East Patchogue
Roadside inspections between August 2024 and August 2026 covered 190 trucks based here, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give a median model year of 2013.5 for them. That is a plain figure for the trucks on the road around East Patchogue, and any model year is welcome.
Ten or more model years separate 56.84 percent of those 190 East Patchogue trucks from today, the FMCSA roadside inspection records show. Whatever year your truck is, include a copy of its most recent inspection report and any service records you have kept, since they let us see the truck’s history before we visit.
Medford’s DMV counter and New York’s paused truck rules
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 2799 Route 112, Suite 1, in Medford is 4 miles from East Patchogue, according to the state’s title agency. If the title is lost or the name on it no longer matches yours, that office is where a replacement starts, and the sale can go ahead once it is in hand.
New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation as paused, and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation carries the same paused status. For a seller in East Patchogue, neither rule stands in the way of selling a diesel truck today.
Suffolk County has 578 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with potted flowering plants, horses and hogs leading the list. A stake truck, livestock hauler or nursery box truck from one of those farms is welcome too; the farm’s name on the title is fine as long as someone who can sign for it is available.
