Seventy-two carriers on a small village map
Of the 72 active carriers with an East Rockaway address, FMCSA’s carrier census tags 34 as general freight haulers, the box trucks and straight trucks that run South Shore deliveries. If your box truck or straight truck spent its days on that kind of mixed delivery work, tell us the body type and the liftgate, if it has one, when you first get in touch.
Seven of those carriers move household goods and six haul garbage, refuse and trash, again by FMCSA’s carrier census. A moving van or a roll-off rig is a truck we buy; send the VIN and photos of the body as well as the cab so we know what is mounted on the chassis.
Another five carriers in the federal census haul motor vehicles. Car carriers and rollbacks from the village belong on the same list, and name the hydraulic deck or wheel-lift model in your first message.
Private fleets that rarely leave Long Island
Of the village’s registered carriers, 61 are intrastate and only 9 cross state lines, per FMCSA’s carrier census, and 49 run as private fleets carrying their own goods. A contractor’s dump truck or a business’s own delivery van parked behind the shop on a residential street is the usual picture, so give us the street address and say whether a tow truck can reach it.
FMCSA’s census records 95 drivers working within 100 miles of home and 13 working beyond that radius. We collect right where the truck is parked, whether that is a driveway in the village or a yard out of state.
Among 10 carriers that report mileage, the median truck logged 3,917 miles a year in FMCSA’s carrier census. No fleet in that census runs more than five power units; if you own a small fleet like that, one person with the titles in hand can settle the whole sale.
Construction crews and the jobs around them
Construction held 167 of the village’s 1,976 jobs in 2023, and transportation and warehousing another 129, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Dump bodies, stake beds and service trucks from those crews can be sold from the jobsite or the driveway; have the registration and any service records together before pickup.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau counts 39 construction establishments in the village. If a contractor is closing out a truck or two, list each by VIN and tell us which ones carry equipment you plan to keep, such as toolboxes or a plow mount.
LEHD also shows 65 manufacturing jobs and 51 in wholesale trade here in 2023. Delivery trucks tied to a warehouse or showroom often sit in a commercial lot, so let us know who controls the gate and the hours it is open.
Lawrence fuel docks and the Jamaica yards
The Energy Information Administration lists the Lawrence Blending Terminal 3.9 miles west and the Long Island Blending Terminal 4 miles west, both petroleum product terminals. If your tractor or tank truck loaded at either one, mention it and keep any terminal or inspection paperwork with the title.
Two rail yards sit beyond the city line on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Jamaica Yard 8.2 miles north-west and the Jamaica yard 8.7 miles west. A day cab that shuttled freight to those yards can stay parked where it is; give us the location and a contact who can let us in.
Farther out, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Global Companies liquid bulk terminal 12.9 miles north and The Energy Conservation Group terminal 13.3 miles north-west. The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation, 15.2 miles north-east, for dump trucks that haul from there.
A lost title, Rockaway Blvd and paused state rules
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office nearest East Rockaway for a lost title is the Queens South TVB at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd in Jamaica, about 5.6 miles away. Start a duplicate title request there, or tell us the title is missing and we will walk you through what that office needs.
Both the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulations are marked enforcement-paused by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the agency East Rockaway diesel owners would answer to. Selling a diesel truck from Nassau County carries no extra emissions paperwork from those two rules for now; the title, registration and your photo ID are what we need.
New carrier registrations in the village ran to 6 in 2025 against 1 in 2024 on FMCSA’s census. If you bought a truck for a business that started recently and the title is still with a lender, tell us the lienholder’s name so the payoff and release can be lined up.
Nassau County
Farms and horse barns across the county
Horse operations and cut flowers with cultivated greens top the list of Nassau County’s 29 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. A stock truck, a horse-hauling straight truck or a flatbed used for nursery stock can be collected from the barn or greenhouse lot.
For a farm truck, the registration class matters, so check whether yours carries farm plates and say so up front. Send photos of the bed, the hitch and the cab interior along with the VIN.
The questions we get asked in East Rockaway
- Can you pick up a tanker I keep by the Lawrence Blending Terminal instead of at my East Rockaway house? That terminal sits 3.9 miles west of the village on the Energy Information Administration’s list, and we collect from wherever the truck is parked. Give us the lot address and whoever holds the key or the gate.
- My truck title went missing somewhere in my East Rockaway garage; which office replaces it?The Queens South TVB at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd, Jamaica, run by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, is about 5.6 miles from the village. Request a duplicate there, or tell us it is lost and we will explain the steps before pickup.
- Do you buy garbage and roll-off trucks from local haulers?Refuse hauling is the listed cargo for six East Rockaway carriers on FMCSA’s carrier census, and a packer or roll-off from one of them is a truck we take. Send the VIN, photos of the body and the chassis, and the registration.
- Do the New York clean truck rules affect selling my diesel truck here?Enforcement of Advanced Clean Trucks and of the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus stands paused on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s listing for New York, Nassau County included. A diesel truck from East Rockaway sells with the usual title and registration.
