Two aggregate pits within five miles of Flanders
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists East Coast Mines & Materials, a sand and gravel operation 2.3 miles south of Flanders, and Westhampton Property Associates Inc, another sand and gravel site 4.1 miles to the west. A dump truck or tri-axle that loads at either pit can be collected right where it is parked, at the yard or beside the gate, once you tell us the address.
Before a pit truck is collected, gather its paperwork: the title, the current registration and any inspection sheets the truck has carried. Add photos of the body, the hoist and the cab, and if the truck sits inside a pit, name the person who can let us through the gate on the day.
Garbage routes and general freight around Flanders
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 46 active carriers based in Flanders; 23 of them list general freight and 15 list garbage, refuse and trash. Roll-off trucks, rear loaders and straight trucks on East End routes are all trucks we buy, so tell us the body type and the VIN when you first get in touch.
Five of those carriers list utility work and four list logs, poles, beams or lumber, according to the same FMCSA census. A bucket truck or a log hauler with its body still mounted is collected as one unit, so mention the body make and any equipment bolted to the frame.
Zero interstate authority
Flanders fleets that stay inside New York
Every one of the 46 Flanders carriers in FMCSA’s census is registered for intrastate work, none for interstate, and 37 run as private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck that never left New York is titled and registered here, and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles title is the document the sale turns on.
Among the 14 Flanders carriers that file annual mileage with FMCSA, the typical truck logs a median of 5,000 miles. The census also shows 51 drivers working within 100 miles and 23 beyond it. Read the odometer before you call and give us that figure alongside the model year.
The biggest fleets based here are small: FMCSA records one with 5 power units and 3 drivers, and two with 4 power units each. If you are selling two or three trucks at once, list every VIN in one message and we will arrange collection of the group together.
Riverhead terminals and the rail yard at Brookhaven
North-west of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places United Riverhead Terminal, Inc., a liquid bulk terminal, 6.4 miles away, and the Energy Information Administration lists the RIVERHEAD petroleum product terminal at 6.6 miles. A fuel delivery truck or tanker that loads there can stay at its usual lot; give us the lot owner’s name so access is cleared ahead of pickup.
Further west, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the BROOKHAVEN RAIL TERMINAL 18 miles from Flanders, and the Energy Information Administration lists the NORTH HOLTSVILLE TERMINAL at 24.7 miles. Trucks that shuttle between those yards and the East End can be picked up at either end of the run.
Flanders sellers missing a title or lien release
A missing title is handled by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, whose RIVERHEAD office at 200 Old Country Rd sits 4.2 miles from Flanders. Bring the registration and your identification there and start the duplicate before we schedule collection.
If a lender still holds a lien on the truck, ask them for the release letter at the same time you apply at Riverhead. Send us a photo of the registration card and the lien release, and the rest of the sale can go ahead while the duplicate title is printed.
Construction jobs, farms and New York’s truck rules
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 262 jobs in Flanders in 2023, with construction holding 101 of them, 38.5 percent. Contractors’ dump trucks, flatbeds and pickups with stake bodies are part of what we collect from job sites and home driveways alike.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 578 farms across Suffolk County, led by potted flowering plants, horses and hogs. Nursery box trucks, horse haulers and farm straight trucks qualify, and we can meet them at the farm gate.
New York has paused enforcement of both the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Regulation. For a Flanders seller, the title and registration remain the documents to have ready.
The questions we get asked in Flanders
- Can you pick up a tri-axle that stays at the East Coast Mines & Materials pit?East Coast Mines & Materials, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 2.3 miles south of town, is close enough that we collect from the pit itself. Tell us who opens the gate and where on the site the truck sits.
- My tri-axle’s title went missing; is Old Country Rd in Riverhead where I apply for another? The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office on Old Country Rd in Riverhead is 4.2 miles from Flanders and issues duplicate titles. Apply there with your registration and identification.
- Will you take a rear-loader that collected refuse on Flanders routes?Fifteen Flanders carriers in FMCSA’s census list garbage, refuse and trash, and their trucks are ones we buy. Include the VIN with your message, plus pictures showing the packer blade or the roll-off arms.
- With New York’s ACT and Low NOx Omnibus rules paused, what papers does a Flanders diesel seller need?Flanders sellers face no enforcement under the Advanced Clean Trucks or Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulations while New York keeps both paused, so the sale proceeds on the title and registration alone.
