Tankers by the river
Fuel tanks upriver and across the water
Cortland Manor, a petroleum product terminal the Energy Information Administration lists 3.8 miles south-east of Fort Montgomery, is the closest bulk fuel site to town. If your tractor has pulled tankers in and out of there, send us the VIN, the tank trailer details if the trailer goes with it, and any terminal access records you kept.
Upriver to the north, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places two liquid bulk terminals, Global at 9.1 miles and Warex Terminals Corporation at 9.6 miles, while Cargo Newburgh appears on the Energy Information Administration’s list of petroleum product terminals 9.2 miles out. A truck parked near those Newburgh terminals can stay there; give us the street address and the name of whoever holds the yard key.
Fuel haulers should send photos of the cab, the frame and the plate on the door, plus the current registration card, ahead of any visit to the truck.
Crushed stone, shale
Tri-axles and end-dumps off the stone pits
On Mine Safety and Health Administration records, one crushed-stone quarry operates 6.3 miles west of Fort Montgomery and a second, a shale operation, lies 8.7 miles to the north-west. Tri-axle dumps, tractors pulling end-dump trailers and lowboys carrying loaders all haul out of stone pits, and any of them is a truck we will look at.
If the truck is still sitting at a quarry, the operator usually controls the gate, so tell us who to call there. Include the registration and a few photos taken in daylight from each corner of the truck.
Six construction establishments appear in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns for the area, so a dump truck or a contractor’s pickup-and-trailer from a small local outfit is a likely sale here as well; tell us whether the body or equipment stays with the chassis.
Bases on both banks
Box trucks serving two installations
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks the West Point Military Reservation 2.3 miles north-west of Fort Montgomery and the NG Camp Smith training site 2.9 miles south-east. Contractors who deliver to and service installations like these run box trucks, flatbeds and service bodies through town.
If your truck is kept anywhere that needs a pass to enter, park it outside the gate before pickup or tell us who can escort a driver in. Have the title and current registration in your name ready on the day.
Milk, horses, nursery stock
Milk routes and livestock haulers inland
Inland from Fort Montgomery, Orange County had 613 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk, horses and potted flowering plants top the list of what those farms sell. That mix puts bulk milk tankers, tractors for horse and livestock trailers, and nursery delivery straight trucks on farm lanes around the county.
A farm truck can be collected right from the barnyard or the field edge. Tell us whether the ground is firm enough for a tow truck to reach it, and send photos of the plate and the VIN on the door jamb so the paperwork lines up.
A lost certificate and the Peekskill counter
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles issues replacement titles, and its PEEKSKILL office at 1045 Park St, Peekskill, is 5.1 miles from Fort Montgomery. Bring proof of identity and the vehicle’s registration when you apply there.
If the title is lost, start the replacement before you contact us, and tell us it is under way; we can still look at the truck and plan the pickup while the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles processes the request. Any lien on the title needs a release from the lender on file.
Diesel emissions rules a Fort Montgomery seller can set aside
New York adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation, and enforcement of it is paused according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation is in the same position, with its enforcement also paused.
Fort Montgomery owners selling a diesel tractor or straight truck do not need to sort out either rule before contacting us. Send the engine model year from the emissions label under the hood so we have it on file.
