Intrastate plates and private fleets in Franklin Square
Only 31 of the 223 active Franklin Square carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census cross state lines; the other 192 keep their authority to intrastate hauling. For a seller, that usually means a truck carrying New York registration and plates rather than an apportioned interstate cab card, so have the New York registration in hand when you call.
Of those 223 carriers, 153 operate as private fleets according to FMCSA’s census, meaning the trucks haul a business’s own goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck belongs to a contractor, a landscaper or a supply business, the title may be in the company’s name, so check whose name is on it and who can sign for the business.
The same FMCSA census counts 348 drivers working within 100 miles of home and 80 who go beyond that radius. Short local runs mean the truck is usually parked in a yard or driveway near Franklin Square at night, which is where we would meet it; tell us the street and whether anything blocks access.
General freight, refuse, machinery and produce
General freight is the cargo listed by 81 local carriers in FMCSA’s census, ahead of the other categories filed here. Box trucks, straight trucks and day cabs fit that work, and for any of them a clear photo of the VIN plate and the odometer saves a round of questions.
Refuse hauling shows up next, with 18 Franklin Square carriers listing garbage, refuse and trash in the federal carrier census. Roll-off and rear-load units on that work are bought with the body attached; send a photo of the body plate along with the chassis so both are identified.
Machinery and large objects are filed by 14 carriers, and fresh produce by another 14, per FMCSA’s registration figures. A lowboy tractor or a reefer straight truck from either line can be sold here; note any trailer or reefer unit that goes with it so we know what is included.
How old the trucks are and how far they travel
Roadside inspections give the clearest look at the trucks themselves: FMCSA roadside inspection records for 62 trucks from Franklin Square carriers, checked between September 2024 and August 2026, put the median model year at 2016, with half of them ten or more years old. Whatever the model year, have the title and any service records together before you reach out.
Among the 42 carriers that report annual mileage in FMCSA’s census, the median is 10,000 miles per truck. Give us the exact odometer figure from the dash, not an estimate, along with the engine make if you know it.
Fleets here run small: FMCSA’s census shows the three biggest at 13, 12 and 12 power units. If you are selling more than one truck from a fleet that size, list each VIN separately and say where each one is kept, since they are often split between a yard and drivers’ homes.
Fuel terminals to the south-west, rail yards to the west
The Energy Information Administration lists the Long Island Blending Terminal 5.7 miles south-west of Franklin Square and the Lawrence Blending Terminal 5.9 miles out in the same direction. A fuel tanker or tractor that loads at either one can be collected at the terminal lot or at your yard; tell us which, and who controls the gate.
West of town, Jamaica Yard sits 6.6 miles away and a second Jamaica yard 7.3 miles out, according to the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck has been parked near those yards, it does not need to come back to Nassau County for us to see it.
Further out, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Global Companies liquid bulk terminal 9.1 miles north and The Energy Conservation Group terminal 10.5 miles north-west. Send any tank test paperwork you hold for the trailer along with photos of the tank and the tractor.
Construction and supply
Dump bodies, flatbeds and supply trucks
Construction accounts for 546 of the 5,261 jobs located in Franklin Square in 2023, or 10.4 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while transportation and warehousing holds 344 jobs. Dump trucks, flatbeds and stake bodies from that work are trucks we buy; photograph the bed or body as well as the cab.
Around Franklin Square, 105 construction firms operate from fixed establishments, a count taken from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. When a contractor sells a truck, the registration often sits with the company, so bring the business’s authorisation or an officer’s signature to the sale.
Wholesale trade adds 194 jobs and manufacturing 62, again by the LEHD job counts, which covers the delivery trucks moving supplies to shops and sites. For a straight truck with a liftgate, mention the gate’s make and capacity when you describe it.
Fourteen miles east, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation. A dump truck that has hauled aggregate from there can be picked up at that site or at home; give us the location and a contact.
Title office, clean truck rules and farm trucks
For a Franklin Square owner, the title counter is 4.1 miles off at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles’ Garden City office on Oak St, number 400. If the title is lost, that office is where you request a duplicate before the sale.
Both of New York’s heavy-duty emissions rules, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus, show enforcement on pause on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s postings. For a diesel truck registered in Franklin Square, the paperwork we ask for is the title and the registration.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 29 farms in Nassau County, with equine operations and cut flowers among the leading types. A farm-plated truck or a horse hauler from one of them is sold the same way: bring the title and the farm registration.
