Private fleets and new carriers on the Garden City register
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 124 active carriers in Garden City, and 98 of them are recorded as private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire. If your truck belongs to a company that moves its own stock, have the title in the business name and a letter or resolution showing who can sign for it.
Of those 124 carriers, 94 operate intrastate only and 30 cross state lines, according to the same FMCSA census. A tractor that has run interstate will usually carry an IRP cab card and apportioned plates; send us a photo of the cab card with your first message so we can match the registration to the VIN.
Eleven new carriers registered here in 2025 and six in 2024, the federal carrier census shows. If you started an operation in one of those years and are now selling the truck, a recent purchase file is easy to gather: bill of sale, title and any lien release from the lender.
General freight, machinery and cold loads
On FMCSA’s carrier census, 59 of the Garden City operators mark general freight among the goods they haul. Box trucks, straight trucks and day cabs from that work are all trucks we buy; photos of the cargo body, the liftgate if there is one, and the cab are what we ask for first.
Twelve carriers here haul machinery and large objects, by FMCSA’s count, and the tractors and trailers on that work are trucks we buy. If you are selling the tractor and trailer together, give us both VINs and the paperwork for each unit.
Refrigerated food and meat each appear on the filings of ten local carriers in the federal census. For a reefer unit, photograph the refrigeration unit’s hour meter and its data plate alongside the truck’s odometer.
A 2019 median and under nine thousand miles a truck
FMCSA roadside inspection records taken between September 2024 and August 2026 cover 157 trucks from carriers based here, with a median model year of 2019. A model year that recent usually means the truck’s emissions label and build sheet are still easy to find, so photograph the door-jamb sticker with the VIN.
Of the Garden City trucks stopped in FMCSA roadside inspection records, 24.8 percent carry a model year at least a decade back. Whatever the year on yours, the paperwork we need is the same: title, current registration and the odometer reading on the day you contact us.
Thirty-one Garden City carriers reported mileage to FMCSA, and their median comes to 8,966 miles per truck. Whatever your figure, a short note on the truck’s usual runs helps us place it.
Single trucks and big fleets alike
One carrier based in Garden City runs 423 power units with 310 drivers on its FMCSA registration, another runs 92 trucks with 92 drivers, and a third lists 29 power units and 14 drivers. Selling several units at once works the same way as selling one: a list of VINs, titles for each, and where each truck is parked.
The federal carrier census also splits local drivers by how far they go, with 629 working within 100 miles and 355 going beyond that. A truck that runs long distance may be away from Garden City when you decide to sell, so tell us the yard or lot it will be sitting in and we will arrange collection there.
Terminals, rail yards and gravel east of town
The Energy Information Administration lists Glennwood Landing, a petroleum product terminal 7.1 miles north of Garden City, and the Long Island Blending Terminal 8.1 miles to the south-west. If your tanker loaded at either one, keep its tank test and inspection certificates with the title so they travel with the sale.
To the west, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Jamaica Yard 8.5 miles away and the Jamaica rail yard at 9.2 miles. A truck kept near the Jamaica yards can be picked up where it sits; give us the street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
East of town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation 11.9 miles from Garden City. Dump trucks and tri-axles that have hauled aggregate there are trucks we purchase, and a photo of the body and the hoist plate along with the cab helps us identify the setup.
Titles, jobs and the Oak Street DMV
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs an office at 400 Oak St in Garden City, about 2 miles from the town centre by the DMV’s own listing. If the title is lost, that is where you can apply for a duplicate before the sale, or tell us and we will walk through the form with you.
Garden City held 32,702 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, among them 525 in transportation and warehousing, 519 in wholesale trade and 451 on construction payrolls. Pickups, dump trucks and service bodies from contractors are all part of what we collect.
The questions we get asked in Garden City
- My straight truck never leaves New York State. Is an intrastate-only truck one you take?Among the 124 carriers in FMCSA’s census for Garden City, 94 operate intrastate only, and local trucks are part of what we buy. Send the VIN, the odometer reading and photos of the cab and body to start.
