Holtsville loading racks
Fuel haulers on the Holtsville and Setauket run
Nine miles north-east of Great River, the Energy Information Administration lists the North Holtsville Terminal, a petroleum product terminal. If your tractor or straight tank truck has loaded there, note the terminal on your message to us, along with the VIN, so we know what equipment the truck carries before we look at photos.
A second petroleum product terminal, East Setauket, sits 14.7 miles north of town according to the same Energy Information Administration listing. A fuel truck that splits its week between Setauket and Holtsville is often parked at a yard rather than a driveway; send us that yard’s address and a name for whoever holds the gate key.
Brookhaven
Rail tanks and freight cars at Brookhaven
Drive 14.6 miles north-east from Great River and you reach the Brookhaven Rail Terminal, a rail yard carried on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Separately, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the same Brookhaven site as a liquid bulk terminal. Day cabs that shuttle loads off that siding can be collected right at the yard where they are kept.
Further out, a liquid bulk terminal called Global appears 21.5 miles north-west of town in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records. For a truck based on the Brookhaven or Global side, photograph the cab, the frame rails, the fifth wheel and every tank valve, and keep the registration in the cab for the pickup.
Broad Hollow and Roanoke
Tri-axles out of two Suffolk gravel pits
West of Great River by 13.4 miles, Broad Hollow Estates Inc runs a sand and gravel operation registered with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Dump trucks and tri-axles working that pit fit what we buy; tell us the body type and bed length when you write in.
Roanoke Sand & Gravel Corporation, another sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 17.4 miles north-east. If your dump truck keeps a service log from hauling between Roanoke and job sites, scan it and send it with your photos so its history travels with the truck.
North Shore harbor
Port Jefferson on the North Shore
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics counts Port Jefferson, NY as a port, 17.8 miles due north of Great River. Trucks that work the harbor road are collected where they are parked along that shore, with no trip south to Great River.
For a pickup near Port Jefferson, tell us whether the truck sits on a public street or inside a gated terminal lot, and who we should call on arrival. That one detail settles how the collection gets planned.
Hamlet contractors
Flatbeds and box trucks for Great River builders
Construction crews filled 61 positions in Great River in 2023, roughly one in twenty of the hamlet’s 1,188 jobs, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Contractors there tend to run dump trucks, box trucks and flatbeds, and any of those can be listed with us using the VIN, the photos and the registration.
A small yard is typical here: the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns shows ten construction firms around Great River. If your business is retiring one truck from a small yard, we collect it from that yard; keep the keys and the title together so the handover is simple.
Potted plants, stables and hog barns
Great River sits in Suffolk County, where USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 578 farms, with potted flowering plants, horses and hogs as the leading products. Box trucks and straight trucks that move potted stock to garden centers, or stake bodies used around stables, all qualify.
A farm truck may be registered under the farm business rather than a person; if so, have whoever signs for the farm ready to sign the title when we come to collect it.
The DMV counter north of Great River at Hauppauge
Title certificates in this state are issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and its HAUPPAUGE office at 250 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Hauppauge, is 7.7 miles from Great River. If the original has gone missing, that office handles a replacement, and the department’s DMV offices take the same request.
Start the replacement before you contact us, and mention it when you do, so we can line up the collection around when the new certificate arrives. New York’s Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and its Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation are both on the books; the Department of Environmental Conservation lists enforcement of each as paused, and Great River sellers have nothing extra to file for them.
