Hamlin’s own haulers
Seventy-two carriers, mostly short-haul and private
Of the 72 Hamlin-based carriers active in FMCSA’s carrier census, 58 are private fleets, the farms and contractors trucking their own loads. A truck from one of those outfits is usually parked at the farm, shop or yard it works from, so tell us that address and we will collect it there.
Only 4 of the 72 hold interstate authority while 68 run intrastate, according to FMCSA roadside and registration filings in its carrier census. For a New York-only truck, have the New York registration and the title together before you call, since those two papers carry most of what we ask about.
Hamlin outfits told FMCSA’s census that 95 of their drivers stay inside a 100-mile radius and 34 travel past it. Ten Hamlin carriers reported mileage to FMCSA, and their median comes to 14,652 miles per truck a year; give us your odometer reading with the VIN so the description matches the dash.
Farm supplies, machinery and general freight
Among cargo classes filed with FMCSA’s carrier census, 27 Hamlin carriers list general freight, 21 farm supplies, 16 machinery and large objects, and 13 motor vehicles. If your tractor pulled a lowboy for equipment or a car hauler, say which trailer it worked with and whether the trailer is part of the sale.
Fleets here are small, and FMCSA’s carrier census shows the top three in Hamlin with 11, 10 and 7 power units. An owner selling two or three units from a yard that size can send one list of VINs, and we will plan one visit around all of them.
New registrations are few, with FMCSA’s census showing 2 Hamlin carriers starting in 2024 and 1 in 2025. If you are winding down an operation you opened recently, keep the registration paperwork from that start-up year beside the title.
Lakeshore farm country
Grain and dairy trucks from Monroe County farms
Across Monroe County, 511 farms appear in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, led by corn, then soybeans, then milk. Grain trucks, milk haulers and farm-plated straight trucks out of Hamlin are on our list, and we pick them up from the barnyard or field lane where they sit.
With 21 local carriers filing farm supplies as a cargo class under FMCSA’s census, plenty of trucks here work seasonally. Pictures of the cab, the frame, the tires and the body or bed let us see a parked farm truck without anyone moving it out of a shed.
Quarries south and pits to the west
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Brockport Plant crushed-stone quarry 8.6 miles south of Hamlin and the Leroy Plant quarry 21.4 miles south. Dump trucks and tri-axles that hauled aggregate from either site can be collected at the quarry lot or back at your yard, whichever you name.
West toward Orleans County, Wilson Pit sits 15.9 miles away and Eagle Harbor Sand & Gravel 18.7 miles out, both sand and gravel operations on Mine Safety and Health Administration records. If a dump body or spreader was added after the truck left the factory, note who installed it and when.
Per the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, Hamlin had 533 jobs in 2023, with construction holding 72 of them, a 13.5 percent share. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 24 construction establishments, so contractors’ trucks are common here; a contractor selling one should include the plate number and any DOT inspection sticker date.
West-side Rochester
Gates and Brooks Ave, south-east of Hamlin
Two petroleum product terminals, Rochester West and Gates, lie 15.5 miles south-east of Hamlin per the Energy Information Administration. If your tanker loaded at either, keep its tank test and inspection records with the truck so they come with the sale.
On the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Rochester Brooks Ave yard is 17.2 miles south-east and the Rochester yard 20.1 miles. A truck working drayage near those yards can stay where it is parked; give us the gate contact and the lot address.
A lost title goes through Greece Ridge Center
New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs its Greece office at 152 Greece Ridge Center in Rochester, 13.5 miles from Hamlin. That is where a Hamlin owner can apply for a duplicate title if the original has gone missing.
If a lender is still listed on the title, bring the lien release along with it; the Greece DMV office can tell you what the state needs to clear the name. Registration, the title in your name and a photo ID are the three items we ask every seller to have in hand.
For a Hamlin diesel, note that New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation shows its Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules with enforcement on pause. Diesel tractors and straight trucks from Hamlin remain on our list while those rules sit paused.
The questions we get asked in Hamlin
- My tri-axle is parked on the Wilson Pit lot west of Hamlin; can you pick it up from there?Wilson Pit, 15.9 miles west on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, is the kind of lot we collect from directly. Give us the pit’s address and someone who can open the gate, and leave the truck where it stands.
- Which DMV office replaces a title for a Hamlin owner? The Greece office of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, at 152 Greece Ridge Center in Rochester, is 13.5 miles from Hamlin and handles duplicate titles. Start that application before you contact us, and tell us it is in progress.
- Do you take farm trucks that only work at harvest?Monroe County’s 511 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture grow mostly corn and soybeans and produce milk, and grain and milk trucks from those farms are trucks we buy. Send photos and the VIN, and we come to the farm.
- Is a truck that only worked New York routes out of Hamlin something you take?Sixty-eight of Hamlin’s 72 carriers on FMCSA’s census operate intrastate, so a New York-only truck is the usual case here. Put the New York title and the current registration side by side, and the paperwork part of a Hamlin sale is covered.
