The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Jordanville Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, 7.6 miles south of Herkimer, and the Litchfield Quarry 10.6 miles west. A tri-axle or tandem dump that hauls from either pit is a truck we buy, and it can stay in the quarry yard or at your shop while we arrange collection. Send a photo of the body and the VIN plate along with the cab so we know which setup it carries.
North of the village, Poland Sand & Gravel sits 13.6 miles out and the Poland Plant 14.9 miles out, both sand and gravel operations listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your truck is parked up near Poland rather than in Herkimer, give us the road name and who holds the gate key. Our driver comes to that spot near Poland, and the truck stays put until then.
Rail yards and fuel terminals along the Mohawk
Two rail yards appear on the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Utica at 12.3 miles west and the Utica NYSW yard at 13.3 miles. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from those yards are welcome here. Note which yard the tractor served and have the cab card handy when you get in touch.
Fuel hauling has its own stops west of town, since the Energy Information Administration records a petroleum product terminal at Utica, 12.6 miles away, and another at Marcy, 14.6 miles out. If your tanker or tractor works the Utica and Marcy racks, keep its inspection sheets and service log in one folder. Those records, with clear photos of the tank and the plate, answer most of our questions before we ask them.
Forty-five are private fleets that haul their own goods rather than for hire. If your truck has stayed inside New York, your New York registration and title are what we need to see; no out-of-state paperwork is involved.
General freight is the most common cargo listed, at 36 carriers, followed by machinery and large objects at 16, motor vehicles at 11 and logs, poles, beams and lumber at 8, per the same federal census. That covers straight trucks, lowboys, car haulers and log trucks. Tell us which of those your rig is and what trailer goes with it, and whether you are selling the pair or the tractor alone.
FMCSA’s carrier census lists Herkimer’s three top fleets by power units at 24, 20 and 15. If you manage one of the larger outfits and want to sell several units at once, send a list of VINs with the yard address for each. We can collect a group from one lot in a single visit.
The census also shows 139 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 58 who go beyond that. A truck that stays close to home is usually close by when we come to collect, so tell us whether it sits at your house, your shop or a customer’s site.
Whatever the year of yours, have the title, the current registration and a few photos of each side ready. With the model year and VIN in hand, we can start the conversation.
Dairy, corn and construction
Herkimer County holds 514 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk, cattle and corn lead their sales. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and grain trucks from those farms are trucks we buy. If yours spends most of its time in a barnyard off a county road, give us directions that a driver unfamiliar with the farm can follow.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 17 construction establishments, and the LEHD job counts put 3,716 jobs in Herkimer in 2023. Contractors with a dump, a flatbed or a service body truck parked between jobs can sell it from wherever it waits. Let us know when the site is open so the collection does not clash with your crew’s work.
Title office and roads in the village
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs its Herkimer office at 109 Mary St, Suite 1111, about 0.3 miles from the village centre. If the title has gone missing, that office is where a duplicate is requested. Start that process before you contact us, and tell us it is under way so we can plan around it.
Of the 8 bridges the National Bridge Inventory lists in Herkimer, one carries a posted load limit and none has a clearance under 14 feet. Tell us the street the truck is parked on and whether a tow rig can reach it without crossing that posted span.
