Gravel at Maple Avenue, stone west of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Maple Ave Pit, a sand and gravel operation, 2.1 miles north of Johnstown, and Johnstown Quarry, a crushed-stone site, 7.6 miles west. A dump truck or tri-axle that loads at either one may well be parked at the pit gate or a yard nearby when you contact us, so give us that address rather than your home address.
Cushing Stone Company, a crushed-stone quarry 13.4 miles east in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, is the third aggregate site within reach. If your truck has shuttled stone from Cushing, name the quarry and send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab.
Logs, hay and general freight from Fulton County
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 123 active carriers based in Johnstown; 52 list general freight, 22 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, 20 list machinery and large objects, and 17 list grain, feed and hay. A log truck, a flatbed carrying equipment or a hay trailer setup are all trucks we will look at, so tell us what it carried and what is mounted on it.
Fulton County had 205 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, cattle and cut Christmas trees as the top products. If your truck spends the season at a dairy barn or a tree lot outside town, it can stay there; we collect from the farm, and a contact who can open the gate is all we need.
Of those Johnstown carriers, 91 run private fleets and 108 operate intrastate against 14 interstate, according to the federal carrier census. A truck that has stayed inside New York usually carries only state registration, so have that registration and the title together before we arrange a pickup.
Small fleets, short radius, recent model years
Johnstown’s top fleet in FMCSA’s carrier census fields 13 power units and 11 drivers, and the next two field 10 trucks with 9 drivers and 7 trucks with 6. Selling two or three trucks from a fleet that size is one conversation with us: list each VIN and where each one sits, and we schedule them together.
Drivers working within 100 miles of base number 181, against 68 who go beyond that, in the carrier census figures. Twenty Johnstown carriers report mileage to FMCSA, and their median comes to 11,688 miles per truck; have your odometer reading ready when you call.
Across 30 Johnstown trucks stopped between September 2024 and July 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2019, with 30 percent of those trucks dating back ten years or more. Whatever the year of yours, a photo of the VIN plate and the door sticker settles the model and spec straight away.
Transportation jobs and the Amsterdam yard
Transportation and warehousing account for 1,551 of the 6,377 jobs in Johnstown, 24.3 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023; manufacturing adds 866. If your truck served a plant or a warehouse dock here, send any service records the shop kept along with your photos.
Eleven miles east, the North American Rail Network shows the Amsterdam rail yard, 11.6 miles from town. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 31 construction establishments and 4 warehousing establishments in the area, so a truck can sit at a contractor’s lot or a yard near the tracks; tell us which, and who holds the keys.
The DMV on West Main Street
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs its Johnstown office at 223 West Main Street, in town. If the title has gone missing, that office is where a replacement application goes in; start it before we set a pickup date.
Keep the Johnstown truck’s title, its New York registration and your photo ID in one envelope for the day we collect. Where a lender still appears on the title, a lien release from that lender belongs in the same folder, and the DMV on West Main Street can tell you what New York needs to clear it.
Eleven bridges and two paused state rules
Johnstown’s 11 spans in the federal National Bridge Inventory include no load-posted crossing and no clearance under 14 feet between the pits and West Main Street. A tall or heavy truck can usually be reached where it is parked, but tell us about a tight driveway, a soft field or a locked gate.
On the website of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, enforcement of both the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rule is marked paused. Neither one changes what you need for the sale: a title, a registration and the truck’s location.
