Fuel terminals under five miles from the hamlet
United Riverhead Terminal, a liquid bulk terminal the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 4.7 miles west of Laurel, sits almost beside a petroleum product terminal the Energy Information Administration lists at Riverhead, 4.8 miles out. A tanker or fuel straight truck that loads on that stretch west of town is the kind of equipment we collect, so tell us which rack it used and send the VIN with your first message.
A tractor based in Laurel may be parked at a yard near the Riverhead racks or at the owner’s house. Give us the exact address where it sits and whether a rollback can reach it, and we will plan the pickup around that spot.
Sand pits to the south-west
Dump trucks that run to East Coast Mines & Materials
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists East Coast Mines & Materials, a sand and gravel operation 8.5 miles south-west of Laurel, and Westhampton Property Associates, another pit 9.9 miles away in the same direction. Tri-axle dumps and end-dump trailers that haul from pits like these are welcome here; photos of the body, the hoist and the cab from all four sides let us see the truck before we come out.
Ten construction businesses are counted in County Business Patterns for the area, a figure from the Census Bureau that puts dump bodies, roll-offs and equipment haulers in local hands. If your truck has worked those jobs, have the title, the current New York registration and any inspection sticker paperwork together before pickup day.
Small private fleets around the hamlet
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 17 active carriers based in Laurel, and 16 of them run intrastate only, with 15 operating as private fleets that move their own goods. That is a hamlet of owner-operators and business trucks rather than for-hire lines, so the seller is usually the person who drove it, and you can answer our questions about the truck directly.
Under the same federal census the biggest outfits in town run four power units each, and the next one runs three. Selling one tractor out of a four-truck shop is a normal sale for us; tell us which unit it is, its plate, and whether the other trucks will be parked around it on the day we arrive.
General freight is the top cargo class on FMCSA’s records here with seven carriers, followed by garbage and refuse haulers at four, large machinery at three and dry bulk at two. Packer bodies, lowboys and box trucks all fit what we take, so say which body is on the chassis when you write.
East End farmland
Nursery, horse and hog farms around Laurel
Suffolk County held 578 farms when USDA took its 2022 Census of Agriculture, and potted flowering plants, horses and hogs top the county’s list of products. A nursery box truck, a livestock hauler or a stake-bed that works those farms near Laurel belongs on the list of trucks we buy, and it can stay in the barn lot until we load it.
Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting supplied 71 of the 407 jobs located in Laurel in 2023, about 17.4 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Farm trucks are often titled to the farm business rather than a person, so check whose name is on the title and have that signer available when we collect.
Laurel’s nearest title counter sits up the road in Riverhead
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists its RIVERHEAD office at 200 Old Country Rd, Riverhead, 5.6 miles from Laurel, as the nearest place to handle title work. If the certificate for your truck has gone missing, the department’s replace-a-title page explains how to apply, and a sale can be set up while the duplicate is on its way.
Bring the registration, your photo ID and any lien release to that Riverhead office if you go in person. Once the replacement title from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is in your hands, we sign over the truck wherever it is parked around Laurel.
Laurel to the Brookhaven yard
Brookhaven Rail Terminal and the yard trucks
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, puts the Brookhaven Rail Terminal yard 22.5 miles west of Laurel, and the Bureau separately lists a liquid bulk terminal there at 22.6 miles. A day cab that shuttles loads off that rail yard toward the East End can be sold from wherever it ends its shift.
Francis S Gabreski Airport, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a military installation 10.5 miles south-west, is a separate site, and trucks that work the base and the roads around it are included too. Tell us the town where the truck sits tonight so we route the pickup to it.
New York’s clean truck standards on hold
Laurel owners face no active enforcement today under either the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation or the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, since New York has paused both. A diesel tractor from the hamlet can be sold to us as things stand, with no extra filing on your part.
If you have the engine’s emissions label or build sheet, include a photo of it with the rest; it tells us the engine family without a trip out to the truck.
