Ridge timber
Log trailers, flatbeds and grain boxes out of Little Valley
Logs, poles, beams and lumber top the cargo declarations here: 14 of the 37 active Little Valley carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census name them. If your tractor has pulled a log trailer off the ridges here, send a photo of the trailer coupling and the headache rack along with the cab, and tell us whether the trailer is part of the sale or staying with you.
Machinery and large objects appear on the cargo lists of 13 Little Valley carriers in the same federal census, and general freight on another 13. A tractor that has spent its time under a lowboy or a flatbed is a truck we collect, so give us the VIN, the odometer reading and a note on the trailer setup before anything else.
Grain, feed and hay round out the list, with 13 carriers naming them to FMCSA. Farm haulers often split time between a county road and a barnyard, so tell us which one the truck is parked at now, and whether a driver can get a tow rig alongside it.
In-state haulage
Intrastate haulers with five or six power units
Of the 37 carriers in the federal carrier census, 31 operate intrastate only and 29 run as private fleets hauling their own goods. Most trucks here stay in New York, so the registration and the title will usually both be from this state, which keeps the paperwork simple when we arrive.
Drivers based here mostly stay near town: FMCSA’s census puts 56 of them inside a hundred-mile radius and 16 beyond it. FMCSA’s carrier census gives a median of 11,000 miles per truck a year across the six Little Valley carriers that report mileage. If yours has worked that kind of local loop, keep the service records from a nearby shop in the cab for us to see.
The biggest operations based here are small ones, according to FMCSA’s census: two fleets of six power units and one of five. An owner selling one tractor out of a handful can do it while the rest keep working; tell us which unit is going and where it is parked.
From the Great Valley pit to the Olean rail yard
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists a sand and gravel operation at Great Valley, 7.9 miles south-east of town, and Corbett Hill Gravel Products 12.4 miles south-west. Dump trucks and tri-axles that have hauled aggregate out of either pit are trucks we pick up. Leave yours at the yard; our driver comes to it.
South-east along the same valley, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows the Olean rail yard 20.5 miles away. A truck parked near the yard or a transload lot can stay put; send us the address and the name of whoever can let a driver in.
To the west, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Gerry USARC military installation 23.3 miles out. If your truck sits on or near a gated site like that, tell us the access rules at the start so the collection is planned around them.
Milk routes and cattle trailers on Cattaraugus farms
Around Little Valley, the 2022 Census of Agriculture from USDA counts 833 farms across Cattaraugus County and names milk, cattle and corn as the county’s top products. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and grain trucks from those operations are all on our list, and photos taken where the truck sits on the farm are enough for us to start.
On a Cattaraugus dairy or cattle operation, check whose name is on the title before you call, and if it is the farm’s, have the person who signs for the business ready to sign for the sale too.
A DMV office a short walk from the centre of town
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles runs its LITTLE VALLEY office at 303 Court St, 0.2 miles from the centre of town, according to the agency. If the title is lost, that is the office to visit, and the agency’s replacement-title page explains what to bring.
Find the title, the current registration and a photo ID before we set a pickup. If a bank or lender still holds a lien, ask them for the release first; a clean title signed over at collection is the step that finishes the sale.
Clearances, county jobs and New York’s truck rules
The National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration records seven structures around Little Valley, none of them load-posted and none with a clearance below fourteen feet. A tall tractor or a loaded lowboy can be collected here without a detour plan, so the driver can come straight to your address.
Little Valley counted 1,573 jobs in 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns lists four construction establishments. Contractors selling a truck from a job site can leave it there; tell us where the site is and when the gate is open.
New York has adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, and enforcement of both is paused. A diesel tractor registered here can still be sold to us today, with no change to the paperwork.
