Small fleets on short island routes
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 104 active carriers based in Long Beach, and 98 of them operate intrastate only, with 79 running as private fleets. A truck from a fleet like that is usually parked at the owner’s home or business in town, so tell us the street address and whether the spot has room for a tow truck to line up.
The three biggest fleets in the city hold six, five and four power units, according to the same FMCSA carrier census, which means most sellers here are owner-operators or a family business with a couple of trucks. Have the title in the name on your registration and the keys together before we come out, and if two people are on the title, both should be reachable.
Drivers working for Long Beach carriers stay close to home: FMCSA’s census counts 154 driving within 100 miles and 31 going further. Among the 14 carriers that reported mileage, the median was 4,875 miles per truck a year on the same FMCSA filings, so a short-haul local vehicle is the typical one we collect here.
Refuse, general freight and cold drinks
General freight is the most common cargo listed by local carriers, at 37 in FMCSA’s carrier census, followed by garbage, refuse and trash at 16. If yours is a packer or roll-off body, send photos of the body as well as the chassis and note the body maker, since we buy the complete unit.
Beverages and refrigerated food each account for 7 Long Beach carriers in the FMCSA census. For a reefer box or beverage body, photograph the unit’s plate and include any service log for the refrigeration unit along with the truck’s own records.
New registrations picked up recently, with 9 carriers added in 2025 against 1 in 2024 per FMCSA’s carrier census. If you registered your authority in the last year and are already selling, keep your USDOT number handy; it helps us match the truck to the paperwork.
Terminals and yards to the north-west
The Energy Information Administration places the Lawrence Blending Terminal 4.8 miles north-west of Long Beach and the Inwood terminal 5.1 miles out. A fuel truck that loads at either one can be collected at its yard near the terminals rather than brought back to the island.
Further up, the North American Rail Network shows Jamaica Yard at 10.8 miles and the Jamaica yard listing at 11.1 miles, both north-west of town. Day cabs that drayed freight out of those yards are trucks we purchase; tell us where the tractor sits now and who can unlock the lot.
Two liquid bulk terminals, The Energy Conservation Group at 16.4 miles and Bayside Fuel Oil Depot Corporation at 16.5 miles, are listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics north-west of the city. If your tanker worked those docks, send any tank test certificates you still hold along with the photos.
Dump trucks and building work in Nassau
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 87 construction establishments in Long Beach, and the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 324 local jobs, 5.3 percent of the 6,149 total in 2023, in construction. Dump trucks, flatbeds and service bodies from that work are on our list, and we can pick one up from a job site as long as someone there can let us in.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Broad Hollow Estates Inc, a sand and gravel operation, 17.6 miles north-east of town. If your dump truck hauled from that pit, tell us the body length and whether a tarp system is fitted when you describe it.
Wholesale trade carries 307 jobs and transportation and warehousing 99, according to the 2023 LEHD job counts. Box trucks from distribution work go through the same steps as any tractor: VIN, photos of all four sides, and the title.
Title office, inspections and bridges
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office nearest Long Beach is Queens South TVB at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd in Jamaica, 7.5 miles away. If your title is lost, that DMV agency handles the duplicate, so start the application and mention it when you contact us.
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 27 trucks from local carriers inspected between September 2024 and August 2026, with a median model year of 2010 and 70.4 percent ten or more years old. Bring whatever New York inspection paperwork you have, along with the registration, so we can confirm the truck’s details.
Of the 5 Long Beach bridges in the Federal Highway Administration’s National Bridge Inventory, one carries a posted load limit, and no clearance falls below 14 feet. Tell us the route the truck takes out of town so we can plan the collection around the posted bridge.
The questions we get asked in Long Beach
- My truck is parked near the Inwood fuel terminals, not in Long Beach. Do you still collect it there?Inwood is 5.1 miles north-west of the city on the Energy Information Administration’s listing, and we come to the truck there; send the address and the name of whoever controls the lot.
- Where do I replace a lost title?Queens South TVB, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office at 168-35 Rockaway Blvd in Jamaica, is 7.5 miles from Long Beach and handles duplicate titles; start that request first and tell us when it is under way.
- I run a garbage truck for a small private fleet. Will you take a packer truck from a fleet that small?Sixteen Long Beach carriers list garbage, refuse and trash as cargo in FMCSA’s carrier census, and we buy packers and roll-offs from fleets of that size; send the VIN, body photos and the title holder’s name.
