Aggregate plants on every side of Marion
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the PALMYRA PLANT, a sand and gravel operation, 6.3 miles south-east of Marion, and the Walworth Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, 6.7 miles to the west. A dump truck or tri-axle that runs between those two pits is likely parked in a yard close to town, so give us that address and the gate contact when you first get in touch.
Farther out, Stone Goose Aggregates is a crushed-stone quarry 10.7 miles north-east, and Syracusa Sand & Gravel Inc works 17.8 miles to the south-west, both on Mine Safety and Health Administration records. If your truck hauled from either one, mention which, and send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab together with the VIN plate.
Quarry trucks often sit at the site between jobs rather than at home. Tell us whether yours is at a pit, a shop or your own driveway near Marion, and who can let us in, and we will arrange collection around that spot.
Ninety-seven small carriers, mostly staying in New York
Only 8 of Marion’s 97 active carriers cross state lines on FMCSA’s carrier census; the other 89 keep their trucks inside New York. For a seller, that usually means the truck carries New York registration only, so have the current registration card in hand alongside the title.
Marion’s private fleets, 85 of the 97 on that federal census, move their owners’ own goods around Wayne County rather than other people’s freight. FMCSA’s carrier census lists the three biggest Marion operations at 10, 7 and 7 power units, with 5, 4 and 2 drivers. Whether you run one truck or ten, list each unit’s VIN and odometer reading and we can work through them one at a time.
Registration on the carrier census continues each year here: 9 new carriers appeared in 2024 and 5 in 2025. If you registered recently and are now selling, keep your USDOT number handy and include it with the VIN.
Feed, produce and machinery out of Marion yards
Cargo declarations on FMCSA’s carrier census put farm supplies first among Marion carriers, with 36 listing it, and general freight close behind at 35. Fresh produce appears on 24 and machinery or large objects on 25 in that same FMCSA census. A flatbed, a reefer, a box truck or a grain hauler could all fit that mix, so tell us the body type and trailer setup in your first message.
Wayne County holds 863 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where milk, corn and soybeans lead the county’s output. If your truck spent seasons hauling milk, feed or harvested grain around Marion, add a short note on that work, and include any service records you kept.
A lowboy or step-deck that moved tractors and other large machinery should come with its trailer details: length, axle count and the trailer’s own title if it is separate. Photos of the deck and the hitch save a second round of questions.
Factory and freight jobs inside town limits
Marion held 355 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and manufacturing filled 101 of them, a 28.5 percent share. Transportation and warehousing made up another 54 of those LEHD-counted jobs, or 15.2 percent of the town’s work. Box trucks and straight trucks serving local plants are a natural fit for us; send the make, model year and VIN to start.
Contractors are part of the Wayne County picture too: the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns puts 18 construction establishments there. Contractors in and around Marion who are retiring a dump truck, a stake-bed or a service body can bring it to us the same way: title, registration and a few clear photos are enough to begin.
Mileage figures on FMCSA’s carrier census put the median at 7,118 miles a year per truck across the 15 Marion carriers that reported it. On that federal census, carriers here also listed 125 drivers working within 100 miles of base against 61 going beyond it. A short-haul truck like that is usually close by, which keeps the collection simple.
Railheads and racks
Lyons and Rochester yards along the corridor
South-east of Marion by 11.9 miles is the LYONS rail yard, with the ROCHESTER yard 19.3 miles west, both on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your truck shuttled loads to either railhead, it may be parked near the yard; give us the street address so we can plan the trip.
West toward Rochester, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals, ROCHESTER SOUTH at 23.2 miles and ROCHESTER NORTH at 23.3 miles. A fuel or tank truck that loaded at those racks should come with whatever inspection paperwork you have for the tank itself.
Pearl Street, Lyons
Pearl Street papers for a lost certificate
A lost title for a Marion truck is replaced through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles lists its nearest office, LYONS, at 9 PEARL ST, LYONS, about 11.5 miles from town.
Start that replacement before you contact us if you can, since we need the title in the registered owner’s name to complete the sale. If a lender is still on it, have the lien release ready as well.
On emissions rules, New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation has adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus (HD Omnibus) Regulation, and for both of them enforcement is on hold. Marion sellers need nothing extra for those rules when selling a truck to us.
The questions we get asked in Marion
- Will you pick up a dump truck that is sitting at the Walworth Plant pit?The Walworth Plant is 6.7 miles west of Marion on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we come to where the truck is. Send the quarry office’s phone number with your photos so the visit can be arranged with them.
- My title went missing years ago; where near Marion do I get it reissued? The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office in LYONS, at 9 PEARL ST, is about 11.5 miles from Marion. Order the replacement there, then send us a photo of it once it arrives.
- My Marion truck never left New York; is an intrastate unit fine?Marion’s carriers are mostly intrastate, 89 of 97 on FMCSA’s carrier census, so a New York-only truck is the usual case here. Keep the New York registration card with the title when you send your photos.
- Do you take trucks that hauled milk or feed for dairy farms?Milk leads Wayne County’s farm output in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and farm-supply hauling is the top cargo among Marion carriers on FMCSA’s census. Send photos, the VIN and the body type and we will look at it.
