Two pits near the village
Stone haulers working Jordanville or Litchfield
Southeast of the village, the Jordanville Plant crushed-stone quarry sits 6.6 miles out, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A dump truck or tri-axle that has worked that pit can stay parked at the quarry lot while we arrange collection; send the gate contact’s name with your first message.
The Litchfield Quarry, also listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 9.6 miles west toward Utica. If your stone hauler is kept near Litchfield, photograph the body, the tailgate and the plate on the door, and keep the registration in hand for the VIN check.
Gravel trucks kept up the Poland road
Poland Sand & Gravel is 14.7 miles north of Mohawk and the Poland Plant 15.9 miles north, both on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. Owners whose trucks are based up that road can sell without bringing them down to the valley; give us the yard address and a phone number for whoever holds the keys.
Gravel trucks out of Poland often carry service logs from the plant shop. Gather those sheets, any inspection records and the title, and keep them with the truck for the day of collection.
Northwest to the yards
Rail yards and fuel terminals northwest of the village
Two Utica rail yards, one at 12.3 miles and the NYSW yard at 13.3 miles, appear on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that shuttles freight to those yards can be picked up wherever it is parked between runs.
The Energy Information Administration places petroleum product terminals in Utica, 12.6 miles away, and in Marcy, 14.7 miles out. If your tanker or fuel truck loads at either one, note which terminal it serves and send photos of the tank’s data plate along with the cab.
General freight, lumber, machinery and farm loads
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 49 active carriers based in Mohawk, with 23 listing general freight, 15 logs, poles, beams and lumber, 14 machinery and large objects, and 13 farm supplies. Log trucks, lowboys and flatbeds all fit what we collect here; tell us the body type when you first write.
Of those carriers, 38 run intrastate and 11 interstate, and 33 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods, again on FMCSA’s census. The same census lists 101 drivers working within a 100-mile radius and 48 who go farther; either way, tell us where the truck sits between jobs.
The three biggest local operations listed with FMCSA run 31, 21 and 20 power units. A fleet owner retiring several units at once can send one list of VINs and yard locations, and we plan the pickups together.
Recent model years on Mohawk’s roadside stops
FMCSA roadside inspection records cover 47 Mohawk trucks stopped from September 2024 to August 2026; their median model year is 2023, and about a fifth of them, 21 percent, were ten or more years old. Read the year off your own door sticker and put it alongside the photos you send.
Fifteen local carriers report yearly mileage to FMCSA, and their median comes to 9,567 miles per truck. A clear photo of your odometer, taken the day you first write to us, answers that question for your own unit.
Milk, cattle and corn around the valley
Mohawk’s surrounding county counts 514 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and milk, cattle and corn lead its sales. Feed trucks, livestock haulers and grain straight trucks kept on a farm can be collected from the barnyard; send directions if the lane is unmarked.
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) record 458 jobs in Mohawk for 2023, and County Business Patterns lists 3 construction establishments. If your truck belongs to a contractor or a farm operation, the business name on the title must match whoever signs it over.
Mary Street, Herkimer
A replacement title from the Herkimer office
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office for this area is the Herkimer office at 109 Mary St, Suite 1111, Herkimer, just 1.6 miles from Mohawk. If the title has gone missing, a replacement certificate is requested through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles before the sale can close.
New York’s Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and its Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus regulation are both on the state’s books, and enforcement of each is paused. Mohawk owners can check the status of either rule with the state’s environmental department before listing a truck with us.
